jean/rosaria breakup arc call that separation of church and state
yeah characters talking to each other is great, and characters talking to themselves is great, but have we considered characters thinking they're talking to each other when they're really just talking to themselves??

“I’m the last of my line,” Jean says distantly. Her eyes are fixed on Klee, splashing exuberantly in the waves of Cider Lake, blonde pigtails shimmering like gold in the sunlight. “If I don’t have children, my family name dies with me.”
Rosaria props herself up on one elbow. “Would that be so bad?”
Jean makes a noncommittal noise. “Sometimes I remember all I’ve done in service to this name, and I think perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad to leave it in the past. And then sometimes I think about Gunnhildr—the first one, whose name we still bear—and I think perhaps it would.”
am i allowed to call this my "get thee to a nunnery AU" or nah

Citizens showing up half-dead on Jean’s doorstep is not exactly what one might call a common occurrence, but it does happen often enough that Jean can hardly own herself surprised when she answers the door past one in the morning to find Rosaria slumped over in the doorframe.
“Bandits,” Rosaria says without preamble. Her hand is pressed to her shoulder and the white fabric of her habit is stained a rusty brown. “Too many of them. They’ve been neutralized. Can I come in?”
Jean resists the urge to frown. She knows well enough that her disapproval won’t stop the vigilantism in her city. Instead she reaches out to grasp Rosaria’s upper arm and draw her inside, pretending not to notice how much weight Rosaria leans onto her when she no longer has to hold herself upright by sheer force of will.
fic authors can have a little “jean taking care of kaeya after his fight with diluc.” as a treat

When Jean spies a pair of heeled feet sticking out from behind an overturned barrel at nearly 3 in the morning, she almost thinks she must have stumbled across a corpse.
She hurries into the alleyway, her path lit only by the glow of her Vision, and feels a cold shock of relief when the woman to whom the feet belong looks up blearily from behind her cigarette.
“Sister Rosaria,” she says.
“Acting Grand Master,” Rosaria returns. She takes a drag of her cigarette, pulling it away from her lips only to replace it immediately with the mouth of a wine bottle, from which she takes a swig. “Bit late for you, isn’t it?”
Jean suppresses a frown. “I had some work to finish up. And yourself?”
“Same,” Rosaria says. The smile she pulls onto her face is half-hearted at best, far from her usual sharp, self-assured grin. She pushes herself further up against the wall and winces.
