KNOW THY SELF When you keep a gratitude journal and document the good in your day, you shift your perspective to see only good. And good things keep happening for you. #seethegood #gratitudejournal #shiftinperspective #queenoflifeempowerment #insight #encouragement #inspiration https://www.instagram.com/p/B9je3diB2gQ/?igshid=jwx1wgbsx41x
#shiftinperspective #transformationalcoach #possibilities Coaching is about reframing. We can not change reality by fighting it. But we can face it, hold it, embrace it, and be with it. And when we are looking at that reality differently, something magical happens. It is beyond logic and explanation. It is truly an enchanting process. What fears do you have? What monsters are you hiding in the closet and are afraid to open the door? Do you like a pet monster? If you said NO WAY. It is time to face those monsters and let them go.... Several months ago an acquaintance suggested I needed a "shift in perspective" with regards to referring to women pregnant over 35yo as #geriatric. It was a shortsighted comment to make, as the term was given to women over 25yo giving birth in the 19th and 20 centuries, a time when NO ONE was expected to live past the age of 50. We have over THIRTY years of assisted reproductive technologies helping women and couples conceive and start families OUTSIDE of the womb, but when it comes to understanding #fertility and how disrupted ovulation affects not just a woman's chances of conceiving but her overall health, especially into menopause, the interest, inquiries, research, and funding pales in comparison. Women have been making and taking care of babies since before we started tracking time but can't be trusted to know their own bodies and babies. Women have presented their physical and mental health issues to doctors only to be dismissed as having "women problems", hypochondriac, or hysterical. It is a FACT that medicine and science has categorically and systematically ignored women's specific health concerns, and the ways in which women's bodies respond differently than men's (cardiovascular disease and mental illness being two major standouts). It is a FACT that women have been left out of important medical research and studies due to their "hormone fluctuations" and menstrual cycles. So when I call out the use of language and the approach to care that follows, how it denies women their autonomy, self-expression, and right to be fully informed in the decisions that will impact their whole lives, and may be even their DEATH, understand that I do not have a limit of perception. What I do have is history, because the narcissism inherent in #patriarchy and why it has carried on for so long lies in the privilege of having power without the fear of losing it. I have the lived experience. I have the stories of the women before me whose generational trauma I am working to heal. I have the stories of all the women, seen and unseen. So the only #ShiftInPerspective I need is the one that reminds me to reclaim that which has been stolen and denied. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs6oZgAjqui/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1be15j2er09xh

For me it was a lot about making those connections with international students. It gave me a shift of perspective, because while I am an international student myself, working with ESL students helped me understand a little bit of what we do and don’t do to help those students be more comfortable on campus. I sat on the Bridging Program committee with faculty members that were talking about things that I never imagined myself getting involved in, but it just proved how the skills in the classroom can so easily be applied to circumstances you never thought you’d be put in. I found myself using skills from so many different classes and areas to be able to face that challenge.
