Some old, some not-so-old art of my cervitaur (like a deer centuar!) Deerling AU Trip who insists up and down he's a Sawsbuck, look at his antlers!!!!

The antlers: little, velvety nubs he has to pull on his hair for anyone to see.

I also did that silly how would a centaur wear pants meme with him (he doesn't normally wear clothes, that's human stuff, he just wears foliage and branches...)

Two possibilities:

Whoever is in charge of colouring didn't realize those spikes were supposed to be Deerling's flower, but drawn with disrupted lines for a softer look.

The spiky "hair" tufts of fur are fully intentional and the Deerling has a long fringe to match its trainer, like a cute baby's first original character Pokemon on deviantArt with fluffy tufts of fur to make it unique. The pink Pokedex does suggest they like to match! Partner Pokemon?
