Pokemon Horizons Episode 141 Review- Let's Promote Unite

This episode is undoubtedly a Pokemon Unite promotion. I don’t mind it, honestly. In fact, I think it did a great job with the marketing! While I do not play Unite, I feel as if this can convince me to.

I think the best part about the episode is that the rules of Unite Battles are all explained at the beginning and that’s it. No one explains the other rules in the middle and it’s mostly the characters showing off how they work without info dumping interruptions. I’m honestly impressed because anime has a tendency to do that. Because this isn’t a traditional Pokemon battle episode, the animation quality does feel like it is better than before, but it still has some cases of slideshow montage, which can’t be helped due to the run time.

And because Unite battles aren’t traditional Pokemon battles, the kids and Friede are basically doing whatever they want in the battle. However, the major difference between them and Shining Oceans is that the Rising Volt Tacklers aren’t as united in teamwork as they are; it’s definitely a major difference. Regardless, the RVTs still have good teamwork without anyone being a nuisance, but it was mostly shown towards the end.

I think the coolest part was that the Pokemon used by RVTs and Shining Oceans are all part of the Unite roster with Toxtricity being added as soon as the episode ended. In a way, it does feel as if they were actually playing the game in a way. Regarding Shining Oceans, I do like that the Pokemon choices weren’t strictly based on gender as the orange-haired guy was the one who used Clefable and the girl with the buns is the Zoroark trainer.

The leader of Shining Oceans, the Sirfetched trainer is voiced by Toshiya Miyata who is an idol from the group Kis-My-Ft2. He has been doing a lot of voice acting in addition to his idol activities, so this is a bit of a celebrity casting in a way. Some of his roles include Akina Myodo in Cardight Vanguard Divinez and the Kasai twins in Delicious Party Precure. Not only that, Miyata is also an author as he is the creator of the story Melody of the Boundary which will be receiving an anime adaptation with its released date yet to be announced. He’s a multitalented person. The other members of the group are voiced by people who have voiced characters in the anime.

I guess my only gripe for the episode is that Professor Phorus doesn’t play much of a part despite showing up in the opening. Her voice actress isn’t even credited! It’s a shame because she has such an interesting design; I don’t think her assistant Erbie spoke at all. The only other Unite character who showed up in the episode is Zirco who appeared in a bonus segment. Other than that, it was an engaging episode from start to end. Koe: The second oldest and the so called leader of the shining oceans! He’s from Galar and he and his Sirfetched are really closeSince he’s the only son of a well known and respected family Koe was raised to be always polite, respectful, working and responsible. Koe took it in strive, since he didn’t want to disappoint his parents.Around the neighbourhood he was often called a prince, since he was always so good looking and nice. Koe always found the nickname somewhat embarrassing. The younger members of the team still call him that to tease himMany girls and boys asked him out but Koe always turned them down politely. First he thought it was because he was to busy for a relationship but it wasn’t until he founded that shining oceans team that Nagi of all people pointed out that he might be Ace.

Miho: Grew up with a single mother who he had a strong pond with. She was a teacher and would often bring Miho with her to work, where he would help her out looking after tye much younger kids. He never complained, he loved helping out his mom and taking care of children younger then him. since he’s the oldest of course he’s the mom friend of the group. During unite battles he always acts calm and collected but off game he always fuzzes over his team mates. Especially the younger ones. Biggest hypocrite ever. Will tell Koe to not overwork himself and take a break only to not follow his own advice and work double time to make sure everyone’s laundry is clean. It takes the companied power of Koe and Nagi às well às Ena puppy dog eyes to convince him to sit down and do nothing.He constantly gets fan mail asking him to be there mom or wife. He always has to write back to please stop asking him to marry them since he isn’t interested in marriage right now. Shio wrote à fake fan letter to him às à prank once, he got a stern talking too afterwards.

Nagi: Many fans say she has a terrifying expression and think her quiet cold personality is hot. Nagi doesn’t understand that at all and always ask Koe if she come off as to scary or cold during unite battles. Both Koe and Miho have to reassure her that no, the fans just don’t know her personally and she is a lovely person and she shouldn’t pay thek any mind. Nagi loves everything that is cute! Smoll pokemon, stickers, fanart of her younger fans and of course Ena! She loves Ena especially and will cuddle her whenever she has the opportunity. Loves Pop music and is unashamed of it. Will show her songs to Ena during there down time together. Shio didn’t like pop until Nagi sat down with him and showed him a couple of her favourite songs. Now all three of them sing together. À little bit of an introvert who has sometimes trouble understanding social interactions. Especially jokes will often times fly over her head and she needs to ask Ena for context gald the time. Ena is happy to do so.

Ena: Loved watching unite battles with her Dad since she was young. Well even younger then she is now. She looked at her Dad during a game one time and said: Look Dad! me and vaporeon are going to do that too! Will you cheer us on?” of course she said yesEna eevee was an eevee for like two seconds before she looked at the ocean and then jumped in to the nearest water stone she could find. Ena doesn’t even remember à time when her vaporeon wasn’t à vaporeon. Just like ena she already knew what she wanted to be the moment she saw it. She and Shio share one brain cell. They even envented a secret handshake together. They thought it was just for fun but during a unite battle where it looked like they where going to loose Ena had a he idea to use the handshake às a secret sight to fool the enemy team. They won that game and the two don’t stop bragging about it since. Ena was the one who came up with the name shining oceans. Since she noticed all of her teammates names where connected to water and sea. Also she loved the ocean and so did her friends. So it was agreed upon.

Shio: Tye youngest of the team and he hates and loves it. Hates it because everyone always calls him à kid( he is one but that’s besides the point) and treats him like a child. But he also loves it because it means he can get away with anything as long as he looks and acts cute. But only with fans, Koe and Miho are up to his bulshit. Shio also grew up in galar but is the poler opposite of Koe. He loud, brash, does things without thinking, ready to start arguments at every moment. Koe has to often physically stop him from doing something stupid. It’s often pretty funny seeing the normally so composed team leader carry around an energetic yelling kid. Shin and Koe often get mistaken for actual brothers. Not only do they have the same accent and are both from galar but they also act like they know each other for years. Koe has to always respectfully correct them while Shio often uses this to get free gifts. Besides Shio already sees Koe like his big brother so it’s not like he’s lying. Will throw hands with anyone who bad mouth his teammates. Like what do you mean Miho isn’t a real man? He is a great mom screw you! Don’t you ever say Nagi thanks shes better then everyone else! She better than you thats for sure! Stop harassing Koe just because he turned you down! Thats not his problem deal with it yourself! Don’t you dare make Ena cry or you will be lying on the floor!
