“I want to have a baby.” ( stemma )
Emma’s waited for something like this for a while - a sign that Steve isn’t still living in the past, that he’s almost embraced the present. It’s been baby steps, checking off items on his bucket list of things from this century he wants to know more about at first, date nights of Thai food and whatever movie he felt as if he missed out on. Then it slowly progressed to Steve making plans for the future, starting to set goals and dream a little bigger than just saving the world, something he’d done a countless number of times. Emma had somehow always been tucked into those plans, the blonde by his side as he met each of those goals, then set new ones. Buying a house, getting a dog, finding something to do with all his spare time. Slowly, she’d seen the relics of a former time disappear into a box in the attic, a shattered pocket watch, his dog tags, eventually even the photos of Peggy ( those had reassured Emma the most, admittedly the newfound relief stemming from a place of jealousy, something she wasn’t entirely proud of ). Then had been the ring that now sat on her finger, the promise of a future, one together.
Now, it was the request for something even more permanent, something to really cement him in the present. How could she say no? A grin settles on her lips, Emma’s eyes lighting up at the suggestion. “You want to have a baby with me?” It’s not that Emma necessarily is dying to have a kid, but she can’t deny that the thought has crossed her mind once or twice. Her voice is teasing as she trails her fingers along his jawline, his head nestled into her chest, cradled in the crook of her arm. “You know.... in order to do that, we’re gonna have to fondue.” She recalls the way Steve awkwardly spoke about their first time together, under the impression that the word fondue had to do with sex, slang of some kind. She’d started crying from laughter, the mistake quickly becoming their inside joke, something she pulled out when she wanted to tease him gently. “I think we’ve got enough practice with that to pull it off, don’t you? But then again,” she pauses, her fingers tilting his chin up to look at her, bending down to brush her lips against his jaw, moving towards his lips, nearly there before she pulls back, smirking. “I hear practice makes perfect.”
