The people who brought you Live Long and Pinup and Spirk in a Cave are back with a Shiny new Big Bang Spirk Event!

This time around we’re getting comfy. We’re getting cozy. We’re taking some well deserved time off. It’s time for our fanfic writers and fan artists to show us what the crew gets up to during their down time.

Welcome to Shipboard Weekends! 

What is a “weekend” on a Starship? That’s entirely up to you! Do they have 5 days on and 2 days off or is there some other system entirely? It’s sci fi - you make the rules!

A starship is like a small town in space. We see people doing their jobs, but the crew also live there full time. This event is a chance to show us what life on the Enterprise is like when Kirk and Spock aren’t at their stations. 

You’re welcome to use any iteration of Spirk: TOS, TAS, TOS Movies, AOS Movies, or SNW. They all deserve some quality off-duty time.

New to fandom? We're here to welcome you! All you need is a love of Spirk and a desire to create.

🎆 WHAT’S A BIG BANG?

A fandom “Big Bang” is a collaborative event that brings artists and writers together. It starts with writers submitting a story outline. Artists then get to bid on which story they want to illustrate. The writer and artist teams then work together to create a completed fic with at least 2 pieces of fan art. 

On their designated posting date both the fic and art are posted on AO3. After the posting date the fic and art can be posted together or separately wherever the creators want. 

📅 WHEN IS IT?

Dec 14: Signups open for both writers and artists

Jan 16: Writers submit their final outlines 

Jan 17-19: Artists Vote 

Jan 24: Teams formed 

Feb 21: Check-in 1 

March 21: Check-in 2 

April 18: All completed fic and Art due 

April 20: Posting Begins

📑 Fine Print: 

Fic minimum length is 2000 words. No max, but know yourself and be realistic about how much you can write within the timeframe.

All fics should take place onboard a ship during whatever you define as the Shipboard Weekend. Artists should make sure their work relates to the fic they’re paired with. 

Your artist is not obligated to be your beta reader. Each team will decide what form their collaboration will take. 

This is an 18+ event. Sorry, youths!

Since it’s an 18+ event your fanwork can be any rating you’d like! Have fun!

You need an AO3 account to participate. If you don’t have one yet, they’re free! 

Admission to the Spirk Events Discord server is provisional. If you post your fanwork then great! You’re in! If not, we’ll regretfully ask you to leave. However, that’s not a perma-ban. You’re welcome to join up again the next time we have an open event! 

Please let us know in advance if you won’t be able to post your work. We won't be mad! Real life happens. The sooner we know the sooner we can open up that slot for other people.

Kirk and Spock are en route to meet a Klingon Captain for under-the-table negotiations when the Enterprise is ordered to change course and pick up a Vulcan "Special Ambassadorial Guest," kicking off 10 days of Shipboard S'chnanigans! --- “I’m not married.” Jim glared into the ready room’s tiny triangular monitor anchored in the middle of the table.

“Does T'Pau know that?” Commodore Kithari raised an eyebrow. “Son, we all read the report on that ‘Vulcan Wedding’.”

Jim shook his head, sighing. “The wedding was canceled.”

“Right. About that. Vulcans are insanely secretive about their culture, but the Bolian Institute of Linguistics experts are all convinced that since Spock didn’t marry T’Pring but did complete the ritual…” she shrugged, then gave him a saucy wink. “Listen. Just roll with it.”

“That’s what he did on the sands of Vulcan.” Beside Jim, McCoy took another sip of his bourbon laced coffee. “Which is why we’re in this situation now.”

Kithari shot Bones a knowing smile. He raised his mug to her, mostly to hide his return smirk.

“It’s only ten days, Jim,” Kithari grinned at him. “You can handle a special ambassadorial guest for ten days.”
