I know I love Brienne sooo much. A true descendant of Dunk. I like book Stannis much more, he was always stronger and left Shireen at the Wall with orders to put her on the iron throne. Also book Stan is famously says “I never asked for this crown but there is no one else to do it.”

Princess Shireen Baratheon, heir apparent to Stannis Baratheon

One of the few improvements in the show vs. the books, was the choice to expand Shireen's role in the story. Partly because of how young she is, Shireen is largely in the background of the book. She doesn't really contribute to the narrative, and much of the story would be the same without her.

Interestingly, the show removes the one piece of intrigue she has. Val is vehement that Shireen's greyscale is not as inert as the maesters suggest. It might simply be that the free folk haven't discovered the correct treatment for the disease, but even the possibility of the disease reactivating beggars further questions.

Something complicated from the show, is her death. If book Shireen were to be burned by her father as a sacrafice, it would feel akin to fridgeing. If she were sacraficed by Melisandre to grant Stannis success from a distance, or in an effort to resurrect Jon, it could at least spark new conflict, but would still feel like a waste of her potential.
