The relentless rain pummeled everything in its path as Lucerys and Y/n descended the worn stone steps of the Storm's End courtyard. The air was thick with the scent of wet earth and the sounds of the downpour drowned out all other noise. With swift movements, Lucerys wrapped his cloak around Y/n, shielding her from the icy droplets as they hurried across the slick cobblestones toward Arrax, the dragon. Thunder boomed ominously overhead, resonating through the ancient walls of the castle like a battle cry, while sporadic flashes of lightning illuminated the courtyard, starkly contrasting the otherwise impenetrable darkness. Each crack of thunder seemed to send shivers through the very stones beneath their feet.
In the shadows, Arrax, with his massive wings curled tightly around him for protection, was trembling, scales glistening with raindrops like jewels. His mournful cries resonated in the air, reflecting his fear of the storm that raged around them. The once-proud dragon now looked small and vulnerable, desperately seeking the reassurance of his riders as he called out for comfort.
“Focus! Pay attention, Arrax.” Lucerys told his beloved dragon in his well-practised high valyrian, stroking the scales with his hand, “Be Calm! Listen! Obey!” He ordered,
“Vhagar…” Y/n gasped,
Welcome To Stormsend
The tidal island where Darkling takes a darker turn.
No ordinary island, Stormsend is hidden and protected by fey wards, and only a few outsiders ever find it.
Beneath its idyllic surface, secrets and tensions await Lizzy, Booker, and Andric…
Could Stormsend hold more answers than they’re prepared to face?
Why Stormsend?
Darkling, Book Two of the Fey Touched Trilogy, takes a darker turn on this hidden tidal island.
The residents strive to be self-sufficient, with chickens kept on the low side and goat herds roaming the cliffs.
They fund what they cannot produce by harvesting and exporting black pearls from the seabed surrounding Stormsend.
Most of the homes are built from rough-hewn stone, with thatched roofs or clay tiles. The style is very patchwork, reflecting years of repairs. Damage from storms is common, and the first material to hand is usually what is used to patch up residents’ homes.
Some of the official buildings, further inland and away from the shore, are built from thick beams and wooden tiles. But the main structural feature of Stormsend is the Keep.
Sitting at the highest point of the isle, the Keep usually acts as a storehouse for food and water. However, it was originally designed as a fortress, built to defend against any kind of emergency that could hit Stormsend, natural or supernatural.
Final Thoughts?
In Darkling, Stormsend will become a pivotal point for Lizzy. It could challenge everything she thinks she knows about vampires, the mortal realm, and even herself.
