Happy holidays everybody!!!! I’m so excited to be able to draw whatever I want now that break’s here.

Drawing&Comp. Final 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥’Tis 16x20…errmmmm. I guess I gotta explain my rich, rich symbolism. My theme was compassion and also grief. I chose two idk man. So….I love knighthood-related imagery. And my main figure (with the long hair and armor) here is taking a vow after their loved one dies (corner guy with the arm), not out of revenge but out of compassionnnn omgggg To continue on and carry their loved one with them. There are a lot of lilies in the corner there, which represent love, death, and rebirth. And the dead guy in the lilies is like leading into the regnant lady, who represents like the responsibilities and stuff the main figure has to uphold. And there are two stars, to represent a sorta hypothetical afterlife in which the main figure and the dead loved one reunite. Also also there’s a fourth figure, a little fairy, kissing the main figure’s forehead. And this represents whimsy and that there’s always something to be hopeful for.
So, she’s like taking a vow to use this somewhat tragic event in her life as a force to continue on, rather than feel defeated or take revenge.
A major thematic influence of this composition was William-Adolphe Bouguereau‘s Compassion, which shows the crucified Jesus Christ and St. John, who is carrying Jesus alongside another crucifix. And I think what this painting is supposed to represent is that John, like many Christians, feels very somber and he grieves over Jesus; but he carries on and he even takes up his own crucifix.
I hope my yapping makes any sense.
So yeah, 16x20 inches, dark grey Canson paper, black colored pencil and white chalk.
