For You - Loki Laufeyson (Marvel)
You weren’t quite sure what it was, but lately something seemed off about the king. Maybe it was because he had lost his son, but it wasn’t the first time Asgard mourned the loss of their prince. At first you had been convinced it was only a bad feeling, but his latest actions had left no doubt, something wasn’t right.
Roaming the woods, you were trying to find the man who could maybe tell you more. You had been searching for him for hours, without success, which could only mean he didn’t want to be found. Your frustration was growing as the sun was going down and the first stars appeared in the sky. “Heimdall, I know you can see me searching for you. Please, I need your help, I have so many questions.”
You kept walking, if you couldn’t find him you should at least find a place to spend the night, you had already wandered too far to go back now. It wasn’t much later though, that you heard a twig snap behind you, the only explanation being that somebody had stepped on it. Of course, it could have been an animal, but you weren’t willing to take that risk. Drawing your sword, you turned around, ready to attack. It was quickly getting darker and you could barely make out the silhouette of the person standing only a few steps away from you. The golden glow of his eyes gave him away though and you relaxed as you put back your sword.
“I was looking for you”, you told him. “I know. I saw you.” “Of course you did.” You walked the few steps that were still separating him from you and wrapped your arms around his waist. When he returned the gesture, you felt as if a weight was being lifted of your shoulders. You hadn’t seen him since the day Odin had banished him and you were in desperate need of a hug.
For most of your life Heimdall had been the closest to a father you’ve ever had. Your mother died when you were born and you father followed not much later.
As a child, you had loved the Bifrost, the view from it, the stories about it. So it was only natural that when people told you your father wasn’t coming back home, you were running to hide there. Of course Heimdall immediately spotted the crying child at his workplace. After finding out why you were crying he started telling you stories about all of the nine realms. Back then you didn’t know he had watched all those stories happening. By the time people found you, you had been fast asleep on his lap, and he had told them he would be taking care of you.
So Heimdall had raised you, had taught you everything he knew. He had kept telling you stories just like on that first day and once you had been old enough he had taught you how to fight, making you one of Asgard’s fiercest warriors.
Now as you were walking alongside the man who had taken the role of your father for so long too many questions were running through your head, you weren’t quite sure where to start. “Heimdall… please tell me, why were you banished?” “For treason, I thought you knew.” “That’s what I was told, but it isn’t the truth, is it? You are the last one who would betray Asgard.” “No it isn’t.” “What is happening? I know something isn’t right, Odin doesn’t seem like himself lately.”
“That’s because he isn’t” You abruptly came to a stop. “What?” “He should have known you’d find it out pretty quick, you’re too clever for him.” “But who is it then?” “Loki.” “W-what? But I thought he was dead?” You couldn’t ignore the dull pain deep in your chest. “Everybody did, he fooled us once again.” He looked down at you, sympathy in his eyes. Your feelings for Loki were no secret to him. Though you weren’t sure keeping a secret from him was even possible.
“But what are we going to do about this? We can’t let things just stay this way!” “Don’t worry too much, Thor is about to return home. He grew up with Loki’s tricks, he won’t be fooled by him.” You sighed. “Why does he always have to do this though? How many times have we thought he had died and in the end it was just some trick?” A heavy hand was placed on your shoulder. “He is the god of mischief after all. I know you are hurt, but I believe that in the end he will make the right decision.”
You had loved Loki for as long as you could remember, but the last few years had been hard. He didn’t act like the man you had fallen in love with anymore and you didn’t know what to do. He was lying to you, was lying to everybody. You weren’t sure how many times you had mourned his death, just for him to reappear, usually not under the best circumstances. You loved him but you were growing tired of him betraying you and Asgard again and again.
When Hela attacked you helped Heimdall to save as many people as you could. With both Thor and Loki being gone your chances probably weren’t the best, but you had to try. You were roaming the woods day and night, looking for any Asgardians on the run from Hela’s undead warriors. It wasn’t long though until she found out where you were hiding.
She was on her way, you had to get the people away from here as fast as possible. You knew she was after the Bifrost sword, but nobody would be save once she had it. As you were helping everybody escape Thor returned. He was distracting Hela so you could get everyone to safety. But your plan to get them to the Bifrost didn’t quite work out when you were stopped by her wolf, Fenris, attacking you. There was no way out, in front of you the wolf, behind you her warriors. At least not a peaceful one, but you were more than ready to fight your way out.
With the help of Thor’s friends you tried your best to fight a way through to the Bifrost but it proved to be harder than expected and you couldn’t deny that you were starting to doubt you would succeed. Just when you were about to give up hope you heard an all too familiar voice. “Asgard, your savior is here!” You could only laugh and shake your head. What a show-off he was. Still, hearing his voice gave you new hope and he hadn’t come alone. Together you were able to get the Asgardians on the ship he had arrived in, now you only had to face Hela. There was no way you could beat her, she was too strong, but you had to try to keep her busy for long enough so the people could escape.
In the end Thor realized there was only one way to stop her. Ragnarok itself. You were still fighting her while Loki left to bring back Surtur. The thought that he would destroy Asgard hurt, but he would also destroy Hela, so you tried to concentrate on that.
Finally on the ship too you watched as Asgard was burning to the ground. You watched people comforting each other. They had all just lost their home and still you couldn’t help but feel slightly jealous. At least they had somebody to comfort them. You sighed, wiping a tear from your face. There was no time to cry, Asgard needed you, people were counting on you to help them.
You tensed when you felt a hand on your shoulder. “It’s only natural to cry in a situation like this. You just lost your home too.” You couldn’t believe you were hearing his voice but when you turned around he really was standing in front of you. “You’re really here?” You questioned, still not quite believing it. “Yes. And this time I’m not going anywhere.” “And you expect me to believe that? Loki, you’ve betrayed Asgard too many times. You left me alone and believing you had died again and again. How am I supposed to still trust you?” He hadn’t heard his name fall from your lips in such a long time and the sound of it broke something lose inside of him. Wrapping an arm around your waist, placing his other hand on your cheek he gazed into your eyes. “You’ll just have to believe. I came back, didn’t I?” “Yeah, you came back for Asgard.” “I came back for you. And I always will.” But still, you weren’t quite convinced. “You really think I’ll forgive you so easily?” “No I don’t. If you were so naïve I probably wouldn’t be so intrigued with you. The woman I love is better than that.” Had you just heard that right? Love? He didn’t give you time to question him. “Listen, I know I’ve hurt you and you cannot imagine how sorry I am for that. I never meant to make you feel anything else but loved. And yes, I love you, now stop acting so shocked about it.” “Y-you love me?” It wasn’t often that you were left speechless. “Yes, I do, and I won’t disappoint you again.”
Finally you too wrapped your arms around him, your head leaning against his chest. You inhaled his scent, you hadn’t been so close to him for such a long time. “I missed you”, you whispered. He pulled you closer and you felt his hand on your head, long, gentle fingers combing through your hair. “I missed you too” He mumbled, kissing the top of your head. You could have stayed like this forever, you could only hope that this time he would keep his promise and he would stay. Maybe it was stupid to forgive him but you wouldn’t throw away a chance to be with him. And after all nothing felt better than finally being in this arms again.
