i don't understand everyone pinning dennis' behaviour in 6x01 solely on mac when he is textually inspired by bill ponderosa, who he initially believes is happy and thriving and thus wants to emulate that for himself. in 6x02, dennis only ~grasps the severity of the situation~ when he sees bill's life falling apart; charlie and frank's amicable annulment is contrasted with bill and his wife and mistress(es). mac is only relevant to the conversation as he brings up marriage, which makes the association for dennis to think of maureen, and then of course mac is later obviously slotted in as The Other Woman dennis ends up leaving maureen for. yet every single time i see people talk about that pair of episodes, its the same old fabricated repressed subconscious homosexuality attempted heteronormativity bullshit everyone also claims to be why dennis allegedly left for north dakota. mac is involved, very directly, even. but he is not dennis' sole fucking motivation for anything and everything he ever does, and almost never in the way the fandom so desperately wants to be true
