(x) wait full disclosure i have never seen that comic before, please can you contextualize it further??? It started in September??? Way before they announced the hiatus?? But then it incorporated the hiatus announcement in December?? And kept going until January???

Did anyone talk about it at the time/after BIG? This is drastically messing with my assumption of when Dan would have reached out to Hector, please share your thoughts!

(Also what the heck does it mean? Dan is a germinating KingKong plant monster? Is it a reference to something specific Dan said in 2018? It’s startlingly close to what he said about being internet famous in WIQYT.)

Isn't it insane?? Like we know that Dan had slowed down a lot on main by september 2018, but we had no idea an actual hiatus was on the horizon.

I can't remember if the plant thing was a reference to something, but it just fits so well with what would come in 2019. Maybe he just took the concept of pigeonfest on april fools 2018 and thought "hey what if instead of pigeons we sat there and watched a plant grow". I just remember it being a funny comic at the time, and I'm sure it was brought up again post BIG in a "hits different" kind of way.

My conclusion is that Hector's brain really just is that big and that's why Dan commissioned him. He just Gets it.

This is a very pretty comic made by the artist known as Shitty Watercolour(Hector Janse van Rensburg). The little cat and the little kid pop up in a long of his comics with the little kid always saying something sad and the cat trying to cheer him up. This comic I thought as specifically queer because of the concept of queer time. Queer time is a lot different than regular time because for many people, we come out as queer at a later age in life, thus begins our life as a queer person. When someone goes on testosterone, we love to commemorate the day every year and talk about how many years that person has been on T because that is the day we took steps to embrace our true selves. We go from never imagining a future at all where we are happy to endless possibilities for the future. This is what helps define the core of queer comics. -Jude
