(I'm so sorry I don't know the ship name so these are what I came up with 😅) ship come to be? Were they always close or did they have to warm up to each other due to some form of mistrust? And sovacade is a very fun ship time for my brain because I Love Sova and it is my greatest wish to marry him someday so here we are with my self insert and him lmco.
Onto the bullshit:
- it started out as a simple companionship. They both do their jobs and are friendly. Not exactly close but not alienated either
- what intrigues Sova about Arcade is 1) her history and 2) how that applies to her work. She’s bubbly and active as ever when at base, but on the field she can snap into Serious Mode in an instant, and she seems to know what she’s doing and understands the important tactical decisions she has to make regarding her abilities. He wants to learn where she learnt that skill.
- Arcade, however… it’s a combination of Oh Wow He’s Cool and Oh Fuck He’s Hot. This is an incredibly skilled marksman, brim’s golden boy, and he’s also personable and humble??? And he looks like that??? She’s intimidated and crushing, and both of those combined make a fun kind of curiosity.
- both of them are often placed on missions together in the start as he’s a good role model and has the experience to show her the ropes. They start to get on well through simple interactions, smiling at one another, casual indications of interest
- the actual companionship, however, came with the garden.
- the Protocol garden is a big greenhouse full of plants and wildlife and such for the agents to enjoy. It’s run by Sage, and there’s plenty of space for other agents to get their own dedicated sections.
- Arcade and Sova would often run into one another in the garden, before Arcade had her own plot, and they would talk and bond over the plants and the mutual appreciation of silence. Their conversations wouldn’t get too emotional, but they were definitely becoming established friends.
- time passes here for a bit as the two get closer. Sova learns more about Arcade’s habits and history and Arcade learns more in turn.
- but once, late at night, Sova wakes up oddly. As he usually does, he gets up to get a drink of water then sleep again.
- But though the windows of the kitchen, he spots Arcade curled up on a garden bench. he brings a cup of water for her, too, and they sit together. And she tells him about the nightmare she had, and she cries, and he comforts her.
- And that’s the moment where things start to become closer than friends.
- Arcade had already been interested in Sova in the aesthetic sense, but this was a very big green flag for her. To sit and talk with her and make her feel safe when at her lowest was a big thing.
- For Sova, it was a bit of the reverse. He’d already found her to be a wonderful person and friend, but only now did he truely notice just how pretty she was. How her smile made her nose scrunch up, how her tone shifted when she was going to make another stupid joke, how soft her skin felt…
- and, oh lord, both of them caught feelings. Hard.
- this is another situation of “both these idiots are in love but they don’t know and everyone else does”. Though Arcade can kind of Tell, she doesn’t want to assume because she might be wrong/reading him wrong (autism things ✨)
- and Sova thinks Arcade is just… Like That. He overthinks and ignores all the signs until he caves and just shoots his shot and asks her out.
- and of course she said yes :) and now they are very happily together and in love!!!!
