Morning coffee and news with the big boi
Oh yes OH YES
My Sumatran male being curious 😂
A quick shot of Jeri's "l'll bite you" face shortly before I locked his tub up for the night.
Loki - Python curtus
He only eats on the floor. The cage is too traumatic for feeds. Lmao.

A small 2.0 T8 would probably be fine for the corn snake, especially if it was only on for a few hours a day. He’s red-eyed, so he would need a low intensity bulb no matter what. T8s really only get warm if left on all day, like over fish tanks. . .
But the question is, what hours are best to light a tub if the bulb is not to be on all day? I know some keepers of crepuscular species like leopard geckos suggest having the light on for an hour or two at sunrise and sunset - when the animal is most likely to be active and interested in basking, since they aren’t usually out at midday and don’t expect ‘sun’ at night - but obviously, the sun is naturally brightest at midday, and corn snakes are not leopard geckos. My corn snake does come out in the afternoon to keep an eye on the day sometimes.
I also honestly have no idea what my short tail would like, but I’m not sure he’d have an opinion, really, since he spends the bulk of his time in one place whether or not lights are on. On the other hand, one of my crested geckos definitely would not enjoy light on him during mornings/evenings, as even a dull lamp across the room ticks him off. Conversely, the other would probably be happy to bask any time of day. I was thinking that midday light would thus be best for those three (even if it means Mr. I-hate-light rarely gets any, since he sleeps completely buried under paper towels), and possibly the corn snake. Still on the fence about the leo, since my goal for the vivs I’m redoing this year is more natural conditions, and the sun turning out only from, say 7-10 am and 5-7 pm would be a little odd unless we pretend thick cloud cover regularly blots out the midday sun.
Anybody got any opinions, especially if you’ve tried multiple schemes with these species?
(Also, how hot do compact 5.0s get? I’ve heard people use those over screens in Exo Terras to create 2.0-like lighting for crested geckos, but I don’t know if anyone has actually tested the resulting output, plus foliage is going to cut the light even further. However, I’m leery of putting a bare bulb in with crested geckos for reasons that should be obvious.)
I love my big fat boy a lot
