First-ever DNA recovered from extinct miniature elephants of Sicily. The dwarf elephant lost about 440 pounds and four centimeters per generation on average before finally shrinking down to a height of 6 feet tall and weight of 1.7 tons. These dwarf elephants were the size of Shetland ponies.
