So, I finally got my new fort up to snuff enough that I want to start contributing (read: pillaging gobbos and elves) to the political catastrophe that is my local region, seen below.
And as I'm checking out the nearest hostile settlements, one called "Russetwealthy" jumps out at me. Its obviously originally elven, but currently occupied by goblins. Nothing out of the ordinary there. What *is* out of the ordinary is that this single forest retreat has 200+ pieces of written material on location; which, of course, I obviously had to steal as my dwarves had not even written ten books yet. That injection of knowledge had the potential to elevate my fort beyond its current age.
So I start sending my military squad over there, they powderize a few gobbos, then bring back ~10 or so books, scrolls, and codices. So I send them again, and again, and again. Each and every time I send my squad of dwarves to pillage, they come back overflowing with the written word!
Eventually, I get it all (in total something like 230ish items) and, curiosity piqued, I make a duplicate save to check legends mode and see what sequence of events led to this many books being just dumped at a site with barely ten goblins protecting it (and admittedly to suss out an elusive vampire that's been eating my children).
So in year 94 (it is currently year 176) the settlement was founded by elves (shocker). Then it was repeatedly invaded by dwarves, gobbos, occupied by dwarves/gobbos, and liberated by elves on repeat for the better part of 50 years, right up until year 144.
What happened in year 144 you ask?
CARNAGE.
For nearly the entirety of 144-145, HUNDREDS of elves, dwarves, and goblins were incinerated by this single nameless cave dragon. Residents of the forest retreat, invading dwarves, invading gobbos, curious dwellers were all alike slain and dropped their goodies where they lay, leading to the treasure trove of literature I snagged.
