happy pride month to all the queer kids and adults that deserve to see their love and their identities represented on screen
I think interpreting Shawn Hunter as being in (ambiguously) unrequited romantic love with Cory, that he is repressing because he doesn’t want to get his “mess” all over Cory and his typical suburban perfect life, is a valid serious interpretation of Boy Meets World that you could support with textual evidence. I’m so dead serious about this.
Shawn: You deserve an award for putting up with me
Cory: you’re my award, Shawn
.
Eric: you deserve an award for putting up with me
Jack: hell yeah I do. You’re a real bitch sometimes
Shory and Jeric are both queer to me, but in the sense that like, I think Shawn and Cory are inextricably intertwined, they’re like the ground and the sky, unable to exist without one another, the definition of soulmates in the sense that no matter what their love for each other is— platonic, romantic, or otherwise— they will always find each other. They aren’t driven to abide by the standards of typical male friendships, nor the conventions of romance; they’re best friends who can yearn for each other and give gifts to one another and protect each other and arrange dates and open up about their feelings without worrying about it coming across as one way or another, because ultimately, they know what they are. They’re committed to each other in ways they aren’t even committed to their partners. They’ll always follow each other and always return, no matter what gets in their way. Even when they chose to abandon or ignore each other, they’ll always roll back on it. Despite their different circumstances in life, they understand each other in ways that no one else does, not even their closest family. In a lot of ways, their relationship raises questions about what divides a healthy friendship from a romantic relationship, beyond the use of designated labels or a contractual marriage. It asks what romance is, if not the strongest form of love, because even though Shawn and Cory are never explicitly romantically interested in each other, it’s clear that their care for each other supersedes that of all the other positive relationships in the show. Shawn and Cory are like Patroclus and Achilles, Samwise and Frodo, Clerval and Frankenstein, Dallas and Johnny, Enkidu and Gilgamesh; they’re in it for the long haul, at any cost, even if it hurts. And then I think Jack and Eric were probably fucking
Favorite Character Meme [3/5 Relationships]: Shawn & Cory
"I always thought Topanga was the one person I could never live without, but she's gone, and you're here, and I'm alive so it must be you . . . Shawnie, I love you."
give it up for one of the worst trinities in human history: the father (shory), the son (eremin), and the holy spirit (byler)
