Did Nuju teach the Le-Matoran how to speak bird?

So like, did Nuju give the Le-Matoran some lessons on how to speak to birds so they could form the Gukko Bird Force? Because its the only thing that makes sense. Before they came to Mata Nui, they make a big point that Le-Matoran have tried and failed many times to ride Gukko birds. But when we saw the Le-Matoran in the present, they've gotten training and riding the birds down to an art. So what changed?

The first time Gukko birds were ever ridden in known history was during the Hordika arc when Nuju and Kualus rid them to escape the Visorak. And Kualus was only able to call them because he spoke their language, rather than trying to break and tame them. And then of course Nuju goes on to only speak in the language of flying Rahi his whole time on the island. So did Nuju teach them some bird language to help them out?

We see in Mask of Light that Lewa called a Gukko to him with a whistle, which we know the language of the fliers is mainly whistles and clicks, so it makes sense. Maybe they weren't taught the full language, but enough to make simple commands and communication with their birds.

The other potential option is that it was actually Matoro who taught them, which I also enjoy for a few reasons. Matoro was more friendly and patient, had a known love of Rahi, and did form partnerships with people from other villages in his spare time. Plus, that opens up the possibility that Matoro specifically taught Kongu, who was known as the best bird wrangler on the island, which could potentially deepen their character relationship. I know some people ship Kongu and Matoro, and this is some nice fuel for that.

But either way, it opens up the hilarious possibility that of all the islanders, the Le-Matoran are actually the closest to being able to understand what Nuju says, which is fucking insane to think about! I imagine Nuju ends up avoiding the air village at all costs, because they might pick up all the snide crass comments that Matoro so politely filters out XD

I think it'd make a lot of sense for Red to be a prominent colour on Ce-Matoran.

The strongest psychic force in the GSR was Tren Krom, an eldritch being with red skin. Based on what we learn of Spherus Magna, it was likely modeled after Anonna, a natural eldritch psychic that lead to the Great Beings rising in power. Unless the Great Beings wore blue and gold when they overcame Anonna, and thus saw that palette as even more dominant of a psychic representation, then it stands to reason they'd associate red with powerful psychic minds

I was watching lomn and remembered that the agori have three fingers and a thumb while the bio-mechs have four fingers and a thumb. Just writing it down so I can stop thinking about it.

Shouldercanon time friends

- all Legendary Kanohi have some semblance of a consciousness, and are capable of / constantly in a constant state of shapeshifting

- this manifests in the Mask of Creation having a built-in ai, like a siri

- Artakha uses these functions to take notes, mark calenders for plans, and other things to improve management of his work

- the runes on the Mask of Creation glow and changed based on the communications of the ai

- the ai sounds like VEGA from Doom2016

- the shapeshifting for the Kanohi Vahi is constant, the 'bubbles' on the sides flowing outwards from the mouthpiece

- these 'bubbles' represent the Matoran perspective of the flow of time - instead of viewing it as a steady river with diverging paths, they imagine 'bubbles' representing people, each bumping into eachother and creating events

Headcanon

Vakama used his mask making skills to purposefully install the extra large eyebrows on his mask, much like he added telescopic lenses or other add ons to other masks, so that as a Turaga he could very clearly express his stern disappointment at Takua troublesome Matoran in Ta-Koro

Shouldercanon time re: character colours because I have so many thoughts on tweaking existing colours that I need to write down

We know on Metru Nui that powerless Kanohi were marked with silver to denote this. While some have theorized that this is due to rank - Matoran wear silver, Turaga wear black (Dume) and Toa get full colours; I and others posit that it may be for emergency situations! If a Toa needs a mask quickly, they could scan a crowd to tell the power level of Kanohi and borrow a nearby resident/worker's mask. This would also give us some nice variety between characters!

However, every depiction of Metru Nui matoran shows them wearing silvered masks. I shouldercanon this as being the result of Makuta!Dume, cutting off resources to the Toa and suggesting Matoran should not waste powered Kanohi like this.

Taking it a step further, black representing noble Kanohi feels weird when masks can already be black on a Matoran. While we know Toa can have pearl/metallic colours on them, I also theorize that this is mostly honorific armour rather than a base state, in most cases. Therefore, I suggest Pearl Dark Gray (gunmetal) to denote Noble Kanohi, and the blend of black was a hint that it was Teridax in disguise.

There's some cliffs near Swanage, Dorset, where the soft, sedimentary rock of those cliffs is striped with desaturated blues, purples and reds, only really visible from up close.

Therefore, I propose that, somewhere out there in the Matoran Universe, there's a temperate island where the Po-Matoran population have sand-blue, sand-purple and sand-red in their armour.

Headcanons for different environments that Toa/Matoran who aren't of the main six elements would live.

Light/Shadow - Anywhere.

Sonics - Canyons, ravines, caves and tunnels.

Gravity - Seaside cliffs.

Plasma - Methane-rich swamps, the interiors of volcanoes.

Magnetism - Ore-rich caves.

The Green - Anywhere with lots of foliage; unlike Le-Matoran, Bo-Matoran exclusively live on the ground, usually in houses grown by their Toa.

Lightning - Anywhere tall, usually mountains and treetops.

Iron - Ore-rich caves, metallic deserts.

Psionics - Natural crystalline spires.
