I started playing around with the American style kettle bell swings a few weeks ago mostly as a part of rehabbing my shoulder. I kept it real light and use a technique at the top for stabilization through the shoulder joint and even down to the scapula. As my shoulder has gotten stronger, I started to use this style swing in my workouts both for strength as well as part of my metabolic conditioning. I have gotten comfortably 70 to 80 pound range.
