THE FIELDS ARE RICH WITH PREY.
SHE ONLY NEEDED TO TAKE ONE. Rations weren’t low but it was good to maintain a healthy supply of food for if they ever did. While the rest of her partymates were scattered to the fields, foraging for other supplies, Mari had crept up upon a cervid herd, wielding bow and arrow. She was hiding in the bushes, and dangerously close from making a clear shot, when —
— wait. Is someone playing music?
The ears of her prey perk, and they all raise their heads towards the direction of the sound. It’s closer than she’d like, and the herd seemed to agree; for much to her dismay, Mari witnessed as it began to scatter for the trees. “ SHIT — ! ” She pushes herself to her feet and bolts into a sprint, raising her weapon in a desperate attempt to loose an arrow — but it’s already too late. She witnesses as her arrow misses its mark completely and the last of the deer disappears into the thicket.
With an irritable groan, she sheathes her bow and tucks the arrow back into its quiver. Lip curled, disgruntled, she turns toward the source of the music. It’s a lovely, peaceful tune, one that she might have enjoyed . . . if it wasn’t scaring away her dinner. It was awfully close, too . . . does she dare investigate?
. . . What the heck. She’s miffed and she was going to go investigate. The music came from a craggy hillside, which she scaled haphazardly until she reached its peak. Before her, a rather big-hatted fellow sat, the melody he played loud and crisp.
“ HEY. HEY! ” Mari interrupts. “ Hey, dude. The music is nice and all, but it’s scaring all the herds away. I mean, c’mon, we all gotta eat at somepoint. ” // @shoumetsu
