idc about rdr canon anymore, i came up with my own good ending (without Tahiti, but with as little loss as possible)
more under the cut!!
okay so.
main idea: Javier is the first one to notice everything's going to hell, bc he's the one who perceives the gang as family the hardest, and that's exactly why he's the first to see there's no family left. also he's the one who respects Dutch for his ideals, not for his personality as a leader. something clicks after Sean's death and he decides that he ofc can't save the gang anymore. but the people? maybe.
in this case he can save Kieran, Susan and Molly and help the ones who survive in canon leave earlier and easier. maybe he discusses it with Arthur, who wanna save at least John and his family.
Micah exposed? exposed. i think it's possible if the gang would really worry about it, not reduce it to a few thoughtless actions and a senseless death. so i rolled a d20 for three separate actions - *expose him*, *convince the gang*, *convince Dutch* - and got 15, 16, and 20. Dutch has his moment of clarity (or not really but anyway). Micah gets shot, so John and Sadie don't take revenge him. Pinkertons never find John. the events of rdr1 don't happen.
John lives on the ranch with Abigail. Javier retires to some village in the middle of nowhere in Mexico and gets to keep his ideals intact.
Arthur dies. Hosea dies. Sean and i think Lenny too.
but everything else? fine. people are alive. some ideals survived.
by request, this is the long version of my earlier post about this topic.
ehhh ok maybe the title is a little clickbaity. i have seen some people suggesting some shit like that, which did inspire this post, but then the post took on a life of its own.
suggesting alleged secret queer marriages or alleged secret queer relationships going public in a group on the precipice of enlistment shows a deep lack of understanding of what goes on outside of your lil fandom bubble, and it’s time for me to pop it. i’d say sorry, but i’m not. i know it’s fun to get lost in the sauce, but i’m your certified buzzkill, dr. yap, here with your anti-delulu pill prescription.
let’s start with the facts:
most of the non-skz information is coming from amnesty international’s 2019 report on the state of queer people in the korean military. i highly recommend everyone read it.
1. gay marriage is not legal in korea, and korea does not recognize queer marriages that were done outside of the country.
2. according to a 2023 survey by the pew research center, 56% of koreans oppose the legalization of same sex marriage in korea.
3. all men with korean citizenship need to enlist in the military before they turn 30
(technically there are exceptions and technically most people have to enlist sooner but for the purpose of this post we’re goin broad strokes ok? less bob ross, more elmo with a crayon)
4. article 92-6 of the south korean military penal code prohibits “anal intercourse and other indecent acts” (p. 16 in linked report) among military service members and is punishable by up to 2 years in prison. amnesty international explains that this law, in practice, targets consensual anal sex between men (p. 17).
meaning, gay sex is a CRIME in the korean military. there has been some back and forth in their courts about if that applies to off-base, off-hours activity, or only stuff on base, but as far as i can tell from the english translations, the interpretation of the law remains that ALL homosexual activity between military personnel is a crime, regardless of where it’s done, as they’re still fighting about it in court.
it is DANGEROUS to be gay in the korean military. in their report, amnesty international discussed the 2017 witch hunt against queer men in the military by the korean government. additionally, lgbtq+ folks and people who are perceived as lgbtq+, or “not masculine enough,” in the korean military are targets for bullying, harassment, abuse, etc.
the yap:
i’ve talked in the past about how the korean military is a real, scary thing, and how racist it is to girlypopify a literal draft. this applies here too.
we’ve heard reports of how straight idols are treated in the military. a queer idol?? married to a man??? i’ll let you solve that one on your own. don’t forget to show your work.
there are people who come out prior to enlisting (see bain from just b), but that’s a different situation entirely. lee know and han have not come out. so to suggest something like a wedding or even revealing a relationship that would put them in MORE danger when they’re not even OUT???? when enlistment looms over them??? bro… how detached from reality are we now cmon
it’s all fun and games until you start willfully ignoring the evils of the world in the interest of making theories about the lil gay people in your phone (or the people you think are lil gay people). some of y’all are actively advocating for things that would put them in danger, showing me once again that y’all focus on the yaoi fantasy and the fun of the conspiracy more than you focus on the actual (potentially) queer people. gross.
tl;dr don’t let your delulu make you completely unaware of the world tysm
and since i like how it was written on my other post, one more time, here are my necessary disclaimers since some of y’all are functionally illiterate: i don’t care if minsung is real or not. it’s none of my business. i’m not fear mongering, i’m just tryna make you aware once again that the girlypopification of queerness and of the korean military is stupid and dangerous.
