Our boy was drafted, he didn't enlist and juding by the year he was probably drafted due to the Service and Enlistment Act
But did not choose to go to war, he was forced.
Just let that sink in
Because I cannot get over the fact that James Barnes never wanted to go to war, and Steve Rogers desperately wanted to be fit enough to enlist had swapped places

And I cannot believe that Marvel has never adressed the fact that Bucky went through all the shit he did because he was drafted. He didn't go in knowing the risks because he didn't choose to become a soldier, that choice was made for him, and thanks to the choice his life was a living hell since then

Like of course we knew enlisting together is what they wanted, they went through a painful ass process for it and destiny helped them but this comment makes me imagine just the sheer joy and relief they must have felt to learn they would go together 🥹 Military is not a very fun experience but Jin pointed how HAPPY THEY WERE. Summary:
Wonwoo receives his enlistment date, and reality sets in, it’s only a matter of time before he has to leave. Over coffee, you both navigate the quiet sadness of an impending goodbye, holding onto unspoken promises and the hope that time will pass quickly. No matter how long the wait, he’ll always come back to you.
It wasn’t like you didn’t know this day was coming.
Wonwoo had mentioned it a few times before, in passing, never lingering on the topic for too long. He was never the type to dwell on things he couldn’t control, and military service was one of them. Still, there was something about today, about the way he kept checking his phone, the way he stirred his iced Americano more than necessary, that made your chest feel tight.
You glanced at him from across the table, watching as he stared out the café window, his jaw resting on his hand. Even in moments like this, he was effortlessly cool, dark sweater sleeves pushed up to his elbows, silver rings glinting against his pale fingers. He looked calm, but you knew him better than that.
“Wonwoo,” you called softly.
His eyes flickered toward you, and for a second, it was as if the weight of the world was sitting on his shoulders. Then, just as quickly, he smiled, a small, familiar curve of his lips that made your heart ache.
“What is it?” he asked, voice as quiet as ever.
You hesitated before setting your cup down. “Something’s on your mind.”
Wonwoo let out a slow exhale, his fingers playing with the rim of his glass. He looked down for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully, then finally met your gaze again.
“I got my enlistment date.”
Your breath hitched.
You had expected it, prepared yourself for it, but hearing it out loud made it real in a way that nothing else had.
“When?” you asked, though you weren’t sure if you were ready for the answer.
“April 3.”
So soon.
You gripped the edge of the table, trying to keep your expression neutral, trying not to let the sadness seep through. Wonwoo was watching you carefully, his sharp eyes catching every small movement, every flicker of emotion you failed to hide.
“I see,” you said, forcing a smile. “That’s… soon.”
He nodded, his fingers tightening around his cup. “Yeah.”
Neither of you spoke for a moment. The world outside carried on, cars passing by, strangers walking along the sidewalk, conversations blending into the hum of the café, but in your little corner, everything had come to a standstill.
Wonwoo shifted in his seat, then reached for your hand across the table. His grip was warm, firm. Comforting.
“I’ll be fine,” he assured you.
You swallowed the lump in your throat. “I know.”
He tilted his head slightly, his thumb tracing light circles on the back of your hand. “Are you?”
And that was the thing about Wonwoo, he never talked more than necessary, but he always knew exactly what to say. He never pushed, never forced you to speak before you were ready, but his quiet presence alone made you want to be honest.
You took a shaky breath. “I don’t know,” you admitted.
His fingers tightened around yours. “I don’t want you to be sad.”
You laughed, though it came out weaker than you intended. “Kind of impossible, don’t you think?”
Wonwoo didn’t argue. Instead, he just held your hand a little longer, like he was trying to make up for all the moments he wouldn’t be able to in the coming months.
“I’ll be back before you know it,” he finally said, his voice steady. “You’ll be so busy that you won’t even notice the time passing.”
You knew he was trying to make you feel better, but it only made your heart ache more.
“I’ll notice,” you whispered. “Every single day.”
Wonwoo exhaled through his nose, a soft smile playing at his lips. “Me too.”
The conversation drifted after that. You talked about things that didn’t matter, what you wanted to eat later, the book he was reading, the new game he wanted to play before leaving but there was an unspoken understanding between you.
No matter how casual your words were, they all carried the same meaning: I’m going to miss you.
As the sun began to set, you walked home together, side by side. Wonwoo didn’t let go of your hand the entire time.
When you finally reached your door, you turned to him, unsure of what to say. It wasn’t goodbye yet, not really, but it felt like a countdown had already begun.
Wonwoo studied your face for a moment before reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. His touch lingered, fingers brushing against your skin.
“Wait for me, okay?” he murmured.
You nodded, blinking away the tears threatening to fall. “Of course.”
His lips quirked into a small smile before he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
“I’ll come back to you,” he promised.
And you believed him.
Even if it took days, months, or years, he would always find his way back to you.

I can't still believe the day of his enlistment is slowly approaching🥹. For the next two years, we’ll miss Wonwoo’s warmth, his voice, and the quiet comfort he brings. you guys gotta chill about skz enlisting. here’s what we know so far:
(disclaimer that i’m not korean. this is compiled from my own research as well as research done by other english speaking fans on this topic.)
1. neither bang chan or felix will be enlisting. they don’t have korean citizenship. even if they had dual citizenship in the past, they would have had to renounce their australian citizenship when they were 18 to keep their korean citizenship. they both fly with australian passports, they’re not korean citizens.
2. most folks in other groups are enlisting around the age of 29, which would be part of that BTS law extension. groups with less success than skz have been granted it, and skz has received some governmental honors this year. not to mention JYP himself is literally part of the government now so we can assume that they are getting this extension. this year we saw 96ers enlisting, so it stands to reason we’ll probably see lee know (born in 98) enlist in 2027 (when he is 29 in international age, 30 in korean age).
3. lee know himself said on a fan call or a live stream or something that he is enlisting in 2027. i think seungmin said “we should do this before we enlist” or something and lee know said “yeah we should do it before 2027”
4. we don’t know if skz are all enlisting at the same time. speculation is they will be, and based on #3, and seungmin talking about military a lot more recently too, it seems plausible they may all go at once. but if they don’t, be chill about it.
5. even if they DO enlist together, they won’t all be together. they won’t have the same assignments or bunks or anything. their positions are assigned based on personal skills and capabilities, not their prowess as a group. acting like they’re all gonna be having one big sleepover while they are participating in a DRAFT is actually insane. like pleaseee stop infantilizing korea on the whole oh my GOD??? they are at war???? also when have we seen a group where all members are assigned to the same thing?
please stop making enlistment in a draft about you. no one is gonna tell you that they’re scared of having to go to the military, but i’m telling you that if none of them feel any fear at all i would be extremely surprised. at the same time, stop acting like they all just signed their death warrants.
there are conversations to be had about the ethics of a draft and about US imperialism and its influence on korea. there are conversations to be had about how propaganda plays into all. but none of that is happening, and instead all i ever see are theatrics. if i was in their position and i saw how y’all are acting, i’d be going on hiatus for mental health reasons fr.
