“Well, shit. You weren’t kidding about this being a hot ticket.”
Adira lifted a large tropical leaf out of path, causing a loud rustle as it swung back into place. The predatory woman soon emerged into an opening, vibrant with luscious plants and flowers all framing a small swimming hole. A powerful waterfall about one story high fed into the pond making for a relaxing white noise to swim to. Upon her arrival she spotted another lounging on a bench by the water, a silky smile sitting on her lips as she spoke. “I see my secret oasis is not so secret anymore.”
It would have been more... politique for him to stay at the scene, gazing in shocked, open-mouthed horror at the bodies. Ten. Ten dead on purpose. And Luna was one of them. They had fought often, yes, and he never understood why she made room for such foolish things as compassion, but he had, on some level, loved her. More than that, he had trusted her.
At the back of his mind, Søren wondered whether he was losing his edge, but practicality or, even more important, image couldn’t keep him from leaving. He stumbled onto a nearby bench--close enough for him to overhear what was happening, but not as to have to see. He pulled a bottle of vodka from his purse and toasted the sky before pouring the drink out in her honor.
It was funny, but rain always reminded him of home. Perhaps it was just the stereotype or the brooding artist in him, but as a low rumble of thunder punctuated the heavy rainfall, a smile crossed his lips, followed by a new feeling of calm.
As he stepped from the studio out into the street, he pushed open his umbrella to shield him from the downpour and began the walk home. He fell into place beside another person walking the same way. Without shelter, he could see how quickly the rain soaked them. With a quick step to the side, he held the shade of his umbrella over both of them as an offering.
“And then I told him, te futueo et caballum tuum, and burned him and his crops! It is funny because he does not even own a horse to ride in on!” Rae laughed, clapping their hands, clearly amused by their own drunken story. Swirling the remnants of their drink, the tiny dragon grinned at the poor soul she had trapped in her drunken claws. By now they had probably downed their human weight in wine and cocktails and it was showing. In their defense, it was a party, everyone was drunk. Or at least a little tipsy. If they weren’t then Eraesa would seek them out and get them a drink. “It is not as funny if I have to explain the joke to you.”
Blood. Sweat. Fear. It was everywhere. The scents mulled together and seeped into the pores of every object around Toriana. The worse of it all was that some of it belonged to her brother, Fenrir. It was a scent that was so foreign to her that she almost didn't pick it up. Also it was something that she never thought she'd have to smell. Running a finger along the ground it was the clicking of footsteps now. "Watch where you step", her words almost a growl as they left her mouth.
"I didn’t say I couldn’t do it, I just said that it’ll cost you.” the brunette replied as she leant back in her chair, placing her boot clad feet onto the tabletop in front of her.
It was early morning when the reaper abandoned its human body to amuse itself till dawn. Neither of them ever slept. Snow had it in mind to return soon to take residence back in the vessel and maintain appearances with the lover bedded beside him, but that could wait. At least that was what it thought.
Upon return as the sun started to crest the cities towers, Snow could see its body being rattled and shaken by the lover beside him. There was naturally no explanation for the bodies empty, comatose state--the reaper had no choice but to swoop in. The dark sheet falling over and into its beloved body which awoke with a sudden, unnatural, start. “I’m. I’m here.” It reassured, abruptly wide awake. “I’m here. I’m sorry.”
