guys so I have a bit of space in my 10 gallon fish tank.
I have my two juvenile cory catfish ( Angelica, emerald green cory, and Jason, my longfin peppered cory ) along with three neon tetras. Originally I had four tetras, but one died a few months ago for some reason ( it wasn’t sick or attacked, I believe it got stuck between the floating betta log and the glass somehow )
So anyway, my tank is a bit empty. I’m not sure if I’m going to add any more fish to the tank because technically I shouldn’t have my corys in a tank smaller than 20-30 gallons, but I bought them not knowing that and I’ve already removed all of the unnecessary tank decor besides one driftwood arch and a hideout to give them as much space as possible. Hopefully within the next 2-4 years, I can get them a bigger tank.
So, here’s where you guys come in!!!
I want to either get another few neon tetras or a clown killifish ( also known as the banded panchax )
Clown killifish reach between 1.0-1.5 inches in length ( smaller or the same size as a neon tetra ) and are categorized as nano fish because of their less-than-two-inch size.
The general rule of thumb for stocking fish is one inch of fish per one gallon of tank if the fish is less than three to four inches.
3 neon tetras = 3 gallons taken up.
2 two-inch corys = 4-5 gallons taken up
that leaves me with between 7 and 8 gallons taken. Now, I have a planted tank with about 8 anubias plants ( two large and multiple small clippings ) and 5 or 6 amazon sword type plants ( all fully grown ) along with a filter that I change the cartridge of about once or twice a month, so I don’t really have to worry about the bioload. My main worry is just the actual space the fish have.
I like my neon tetras, but I just don’t REALLY like them. They’re active, sure, but they’re very… basic. If I was restarting my tank, I wouldn’t have gotten them, but oh well. I’m stuck with them for another six months to three years.
I REALLY want clown killifish. They’re small and just adorable, as well as active but a little shy. But I don’t want to overload the tank!
What are your thoughts?
buy more neon tetras
buy clown killifish
leave the tank as-is

This is the tank. Ignore the cloudy water, it was when I was cleaning the tank and stirring up the dirt. It’s completely clear now, as seen below ⬇️
Here is the sword plants from one angle. On the right-hand side where the empty space is, is where I now have the anubias clippings.
here’s what it looks like now:
