The Pit was an organization formed by students to cheer the athletes on to victory. Members sat as near the team as possible, painted their faces, wore T-shirts and would not be seated until the team scored.

Pine Valley was a beloved yelling captain for Sam Houston State Teachers College who always got the spirit of the university to come alive at athletic events in 1925.
