the discrepancy between shun and sellon's relationship in the jpn dub and eng dub is really funny but also aggravating; the eng dub just blatantly glosses over very deliberate directing choices, such as the choice in mood music, the meaningful dialogue and setting, all things that carry romantic undertones (sellon referring to shun as a beautiful flower and telling him that his battles are beautiful, the soft music that plays whenever they have their private talks, the way sellon gazes at shun and the way he gazes at her, the way shun slowly finds himself listening to her advice, the way she betrays him and wants him all in the same breath, the way shun's hurt manifests as something mutually destructive, the way sellon is right about the ways that they’re similar) it's all right there in the writing and framing of certain scenes but the execution falls incredibly flat in the eng dub and completely misses the mark, to the point where the general perception of their relationship is one in which shun never cared for or trusted sellon at all.
and that's a damn shame.
