Yanno what really solidifies it for me that katniss does actually love peeta? She feels like she owes it to Gail, like he’s entitled to her, bc she would also be upset if he went into the games and did what she did, but when she metaphorically says goodbye to Gale bc she knows she won’t make it home after the quell, she allows herself to be happy with peeta bc what does it matter to Gale? she knows she’s never gonna see him again so there’s nothing to feel guilty about. and she has the best time with peeta! They have a picnic on the roof in the garden and he said something about wanting to freeze time in that moment forever and katniss says “okay, I’ll allow it” and it really reminds me of the epilogue with their kids in the flower field,
