{ ooc } i always write my vampires as sexual creatures. heavy implications of crossover between feeding and sexuality (my main influences horror-wise are gothic/victorian lit, tbh, and i dunno much about marvel vampires outside of the thing with wade fighting dracula). whats your opinion on that, out of curiosity?

Marvel vampires tend to draw a heavy influence from Bram Stoker’s work as well as Varney the Vampire and other gothic works and penny dreadfuls of the era. While Victor Gischler did rework the Marvel vampires a lot of it still kept to old traditions and mythos and just added in a bunch of Vampire the Masquaradesque Clans and Sects.

With my portrayal of Jubilee, I don’t treat it as much as a sexual thing, though that can factor in, so much as I treat it as an addiction that she has to manage. This is how Gischler approached it when they weaned her off of Logan’s blood in X-Men (2010) #24. She had legitimate withdrawals from the blood and grew increasingly more desperate to go out and hunt down human blood. I prefer writing it more through a struggle lens than a sexual one because the struggle of her nature versus her nurture and how easily she could go villain is very important to me.

For me, Jubilee’s vampirism is always going to be about pushing that boulder up the mountain. There is no ultimate victory, she is never going to fully beat it. It isn’t something she will ever fully conquer, but she will have small victories, advances in her control, in her discipline. She’ll manage and she’ll continue on.
