Dan absolutely loves working at the flower shop. He loves everything about flowers, and he can probably name every single type of flower off the top of his head without having to look it up.
Dan is very enthusiastic about flowers, and has been since he was a little boy. He feels at home when he’s surrounded by flowers. He sits at the shop for hours, arranging flowers and caring for them. Dan almost blends in with the flowers with his pastel colored sweaters, and the flower crown he wears on his head.
It’s the weekend, finally, and Dan is expecting more customers. It’s usually quiet throughout the week, but most of his customers come by the shop on this weekend since they don’t have school or work.
Dan sighs as he sits at the front desk, scrolling through his phone.
It’s quiet for a few moments until Dan finally hears a ding. He looks up from his phone and smiles when he sees a boy walk into the shop. It’s the first customer of the day so Dan’s very excited.
“Hello!” Dan greets cheerfully as he sits up in his chair.
The boy jumps, and looks over at Dan with wide eyes, not expecting to be greeted like that.
Dan smiles at him. “Is there anything I can help you with, Sir?” He asks.
“Um,” the boy hesitates and looks around. “I-I need f-flowers.”
“Of course you need flowers, silly. Why else would you come into a flower shop for?” Dan giggles, and then he walks around the counter and looks up at the boy. “So, who are you buying flowers for?”
“Um,” the boy looks up at Dan shyly, his cheeks visibly pink from blushing so much. “A… A friend.”
“Oh, okay. Do you want something specific from this friend? I can make you an arrangement,”
“I… don’t know,” the boy friend. “I’ve never bought flowers before.”
“That’s okay. There’s a first time for everything, huh?” Dan says. “By the way, my name is Dan.”
“Phil,” he slowly reaches out and shakes Dan’s hand, and then quickly puts his hand back into his pocket.
“Okay, well… why don’t we go have a look at other flowers for examples, and you can tell me which one you like best? That would help me understand what your friend would like,” Dan suggests.
“O-Okay,” Phil mumbles. He starts following Dan as Dan leads the way throughout the shop, pointing at different flower arrangements and explaining what each and every one all meant.
“Do you see any that you like?” Dan asks as he looks over at Phil.
Yeah, I see something I like, Phil thinks to himself. “I just…” Phil blushes. “I just need something simple.”
“Oh, okay. Why didn’t you just say so? How about I get you some roses, then? Everybody loves roses,” Dan smiles and then he walks into the back of the shop, leaving Phil alone for a couple moments.
Dan comes back with a bouquet of flowers in his hands, of different colored roses neatly organized and strategically placed to make them look aesthetically pleasing.
“How’s this?” Dan asks as he shows Phil the bouquet.
Phil looks down at the flowers and his eyes widen. He couldn’t help but be impressed with Dan, and then he looks back up at Dan. “Wow… th-that was really fast. H-How did you do that so fast?”
Dan smiles proudly. “I’ve been doing this for years, so I kind of have a good system down,” he shrugs.
“Years?” Phil asks, raising his eyebrows. “You look young, though?”
“Oh, thanks,” Dan giggles. “I’m only twenty years old. I bet I’m probably around your age, huh?”
Phil blushes, and nods. “Y-Yeah. I’m… I’m nineteen,” he replies.
“I thought so. Oh! Hold this for a second,” Dan hands the flowers to Phil and then he quickly walks over to the counter and pulls out a little card. He walks back over to Phil and sticks the card into the flowers. “Now you can leave a note if you wish to, but you don’t have to of course. I just think it’s extra cute.”
“Oh. Th-Thank you,” Phil says. He looks down at the flowers and sniffs them, and can’t help but smile.
“Why don’t I ring you up?” Dan suggests as he leads the way over to the counter.
Phil takes out his wallet and starts to hand his money to Dan, but Dan holds his hands up and quickly shakes his head, confusing Phil. “No, please. This is on me. You don’t have to pay,”
Phil frowns. “What? You can’t do that. Please, let me pay,” he tries again.
Dan giggles, still refusing to take Phil’s money. “No, I’m paying. A special gift from me for your friend,”
Phil can’t help but blush. “I… I don’t know what to say. Th-Thank you,” he whispers shyly.
“That’s okay. I hope your friend likes the flowers. Have a good evening, mister,” Dan smiles at him and grabs the flowers and puts them in a small bag. He hands them back to Phil.
“Thank you,” Phil says as he takes the bag from Dan. He looks at Dan one last time before turning around and walking out of the flower shop. He looks up at the name of the flower shop once he exits.

Phil will definitely have to remember that name, and he’ll definitely have to come back.
For the flowers, of course. No other reason. Just the flowers.
However, it only took a couple days for Phil to realize that he wanted to go back to the flower shop. He just misses Dan’s presence in general, even though they only talked for a little bit, and it was about flowers.
Dan is warm, and kind. Phil doesn’t meet people like that usually.
Phil looks up at the familiar flower shop, seeing the sign lighting up above him. It’s Monday morning, and Phil thought he would come by early so maybe he could have more time to talk to Dan.
That is, if his shyness doesn’t get in the way of him actually talking to Dan.
Phil hesitates before finally walking into the flower shop. He looks around and doesn’t see Dan anywhere, which disappointed him. He thought for sure Dan would be here, since he loves these flowers so much.
“Oh, hello Pretty Eyes,”
Phil jumps at the sudden voice. He looks over and is relieved when he sees Dan.
“H-H-Hi,” Phil replies nervously. He’s mentally kicking himself for stuttering so much. He just wants to have a normal conversation with someone without his social anxiety getting in the way. But how could he remain calm when Dan keeps complimenting him and calling him things like ‘Pretty Eyes’.
“You’re back so soon? I wasn’t expecting you to come back,” Dan grins.
Phil blushes and slowly nods his head. “Y-Yeah. Um, m-my friend. She really liked the flowers,” Phil says. “She thought they were well put together. I told her that you made them.”
Dan grins. “That’s great!” He claps excitedly. “I love hearing that. You have no idea how happy you’ve made me. I never get to hear how people like my flowers after my customers leave.”
Phil smiles. “She really likes flowers and appreciates them,” he tells him.
“That’s great. That makes me really happy to hear. So, what are you doing here now?” Dan asks curiously. “Now that I’m complaining or anything. I’m happy to see you again.”
“Oh. I-I-” Phil hesitates as he tries to think of a good excuse. “Well, my mums birthday is coming up and…”
“Is that so?” Dan chuckles, obviously not believing Phil’s excuse. “Okay. I actually just finished putting together some bouquets. Would you like to see them? You’ll be the first person to see them.”
“Yes, please,” Phil nods quickly and follows Dan to the back.
“I have a couple of different bouquets but I think this purple arrangement would be lovely. Does your mum like purple?” Dan asks as he looks up at Phil. “If not, I have different colors as well.”
“No, no. Sh-She does like purple. It’s her favorite color actually,” Phil smiles.
“Oh, that’s funny,” Dan giggles. “This one would be perfect then. Let’s go ring it up.”
Phil nods and follows Dan back to the register. He’s disappointed that he’ll spend less time with Dan, guess he’ll have to come back another day and try again.
And so, Phil does. He keeps coming back to his favorite flower shop. He buys flowers from Dan.
And eventually, he finds the courage to ask Dan out on a date.
“This is nice,” Dan says as he sits down on the picnic basket. “I’ve never been on a picnic before.”
“Really?” Phil asks, surprised. “I thought someone like you would have. That’s why I picked it.”
“I know, because I’m a nature type of guy. But, I don’t know… guess no one ever thought to take me on a picnic date. You’re the first so that makes you special,” Dan grins as he looks up at Phil.
Phil blushes, and then he reaches over and starts pulling food out of the basket.
“We’ve been talking for over four months and I can still make you blush. That’s so cute,” Dan giggles.
“Stop,” Phil whines as he hides his cheeks with his hands.
Dan grins, and then he reaches over and gently grab Phil’s hands to Phil couldn’t hide himself anymore, and Dan’s holding Phil’s hands tightly in his own hands. “Don’t hide,” he whispers.
Phil looks up at Dan, his cheeks turning bright pink.
“Hi,” Dan smiles, and then he slowly leans closer to Phil, and then presses his lips against Phil’s, and kisses him. The kiss is slow and sweet. It only lasts for a few seconds before Dan pulls away again.
“Wow,” Phil breathes as he stares at Dan. “That was…”
“Amazing,” Dan finishes for Phil. “Wait! I almost forgot. I have something for you…”
“You do?” Phil asks, watching curiously as Dan pulls something out of his bag. As soon as he sees what Dan pulls out, he’s not that surprised really. “Did you actually bring me flowers?”
Dan giggles as he looks up at Phil. “Come on, Pretty Eyes, did you really think I wouldn’t bring flowers?”
