Finding ways to test for #sicklecell in low cost methods similar to that of point of care HIV or malaria tests, would be transformative in testing in countries that have limited resources for screening their sickle cell population. There are many tests available, including the solubility test, however inexpensive methods that prove to be more reliable in yielding accurate results are needed. #sicklecellawareness #sicklecell101 https://www.instagram.com/p/BnoyXq9ghjw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=dslhlmtxh0rr
Have you lost a job due to sickle cell? “I was working as a nursing assistant and my job was fully aware of my health condition, sickle cell disease. Initially, they told me they were willing to accommodate my condition; however when I went into a crisis, I wasn’t able to go into work for a week. I was put on probation. When I returned, I was given the option to get “laid off” or to just leave the job. I chose to leave because this wasn’t the first time I encountered having to choose between work and my health.” @pretty_littl3_thing #facesofsicklecell #YKYHSCW #sicklecell101 ------------------------------ For a trusted resource on this topic visit @onescdvoice (link in bio) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoPZ3yfA0P3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7icpfsclrcdz
“I don’t like missing out on opportunities because of #sicklecell disease. Even when I’m not feeling great, I want to do as much as I can, and put in as much as possible. I hate being hospitalized or being in bed because I’m not strong enough to do what other are doing. Everyday I give it 100%. It’s an inner motivation; dangerous at times, but I feel it is worth it.” In this photo, Shubby climbed the Corcovado mountain by foot to see Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. #YKYHSCW #sicklecell101 ------------------------------------------ Sponsored by Ironwood Pharma https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn1rwLnATJ_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1o8gmjdrvav2l

Any tips from individuals who have applied are welcomed! Sometimes this burden is too heavy to carry on your own, so it encompasses you and unintentionally becomes your disguise. Always remember you’re much more than that. You were never a burden, but always a blessing. #sicklecell101 #sicklecell #blessing
