With rosy cheeks, haunted gaze and flattened features, Siems' highly stylized figures inhabit a dreamy colonial landscape. Margarethe Siems and Gertrude Förstel sing Norma (1903)
Siems sang Chrysothemis and the Marschallin in the Dresden premieres of Elektra (1909) and Der Rosenkavalier (1911). A soprano Adalgisa, Förstel regularly appeared at Bayreuth between 1904 and 1912, singing Woglinde, the Forest Bird, a Flower Maiden, and the Shepherd from Tannhäuser.
