How to Update Your Look in Five Months

a quick fic based on this picture by silveray :3

Hanzo comes back from the field. His skin is hard and brown with caked dust and sun tan. He smells wild, not open sewer nasty but primitive. Spicy. His clothes are bleached lighter, thin, and torn in a few places. Beneath the bird's nest he's developed on his head, his eyes are cold as ice.

McCree knows that endurance matches like this are hard on anyone, even those who happen to kill people for a living, so he goes to comfort his lover. Doesn't get a word out before Hanzo puts a finger on his lips. "No."

Jesse dutifully collects the weapons and clothes Hanzo sheds, slightly mortified at the stains they leave on the floor, as Shimada retreats into the bathroom.

He stays in there for over an hour. Gives McCree time to wash his stuff before it releases spores or something. Finally he follows him. Finds Hanzo sitting in the shower, curled in a loose ball. McCree steps in fully clothed, settles behind him, holds him in his arms.

"Jack's gonna complain about wastin' water, babe."

"I do not care."

Jesse's quite aware Hanzo has a tilted view of the world. Shimada's ruthless and bad-tempered and hates even the perception of being coddled. So if he wants to support him, he has to be sneaky about it. Find scapegoats, if he has to. In the end, it gets Hanzo calm and in a good place to recover.

The shower turns cold and Hanzo lets Jesse carry him to bed.

The next morning, McCree's woken up by curses. In the space of a night, Shimada's gone from exhausted soldier to his usual snapdragon self. Jesse finds him in the bathroom again, trying fruitlessly to get a comb through his hair. The handle breaks off in his hand and he's shocked for a split second, wide-eyed and vulnerable, before scowling and rummaging through his pack. The knife he retrieves is large enough to skin a deer. Gathering the whole unruly mess in his fist, he brings the blade toward the base of it--

"Hold on there!"

Hanzo's heart flutters at the sound of McCree's voice. He wants to hate himself for it, but he can't. It's been weeks and weeks of poor communication, and god knows he's used to being lonely, but now that he's fallen into this odd domestic relationship with a side helping of brutal murder, he's had to compensate for reactions he thought he'd never have. "What. What do you want."

"Y'ain't gonna keep it? It looks gorgeous on ya."

Hanzo gives him a look that could peel paint. "It is disgusting."

"I'll treat you to a salon, sugar. Best one in town, no expense spared."

Part of Hanzo wants that so badly he feels like punching himself in the face. "No."

"C'mon. We'll get it sorted out. Ya look beautiful already. Imagine it fixed up real nice."

And hell, he is. He would look like a yokai, fantastic and deadly. A devil on the battlefield. And he has makeup to make it work, reds and yellows and a lot of black. Drive home to his enemies that they were slain by Hanzo Shimada.

"Darlin'? Could you put the knife down?"

Hanzo forgot he had it in the first place. So lost in thought, so excited for change, he was flipping and sliding it between his fingers. He holds the blade up to the light, admires the glint off stainless steel. "No expense spared?"

This is a terrible idea. Hanzo's the one with a fortune squirreled away in off shore accounts, not him. Hell, going out for a movie was enough to put a serious dent in his wallet. But since Shimada is his lover, his partner, his equal... "You kin even get those cucumbers on yer eyes."

It's worth going into debt just to see Hanzo smile. "Very well."

The bill is ludicrous.

Jack's reaction when it lands on his desk even more so.

But when Hanzo hits the killing floor, ponytail trailing him like a thunder cloud, and every single eye is on him, god is it worth it.

You made us like him, then hate him, then love him just to kill him. This is sick and it better be goddamn beautiful do you hear me? WHY, MASHIMA?????? I know he wants to see his Mika again, but... WE WANT MORE SILVERAY HUGSSSSSSSSS.

Heavily inspired by one of Silveray's gorgeous teenager-bosses-au! works, I intended to draw her teenage Maxie and Archie at first.

While drawing, I was thinking that since both are canonically assumed to be in their 40s, their teenage would be at least about 22 or more years ago and furthermore, I got a silly idea 'What would all other bosses be like at then', which led to above awful work of mine.

Giovanni's age seems to be similar with Maxie and Archie.

And according to one of 7 sages from BW, Ghetsis isn't old enough to have a grown-up-son like N, so he might be a bit younger than them. About 2 or 3 years I think? But since he is just too damn tall, he would still be taller than any other teenagers older than him.

Lysandre looks as old as Sycamore to me, between about 35-36. So he would be like 13 or something in this pic.

Cyrus is just soooooooooooooooooooo young. even younger than my sis.

Tbh, I justed wanted to draw Silveray's teen Maxie and Archie, kid Lysandre and baby Cyrus.
