Progress on the throne room!
The big boring staircase got replaced with a pair of fancy spiral stairs. I managed to make them usable by adding an invisible modular staircase underneath, so sims can (and will!) climb them, to my great delight!
Then for the outdoor area, I added cypresses, dragon statues, fountains and royal banners to give it that 'elevated' look. In my own humble opinion, you can never go wrong with cypresses! There are some benches and chess tables scattered around, so hopefully my sims will feel more inclined to linger in the area.
Finally, we've got some interiors going! The throne room is more or less done, and so is the hallway/grand entrance. I'm so proud of myself for remembering to add the skylight, it's such a look!
Ngl, I'm beginning to feel really good about this build.

The rooftop got a makeover. It turned out very pretty and posh and perhaps a tad too modern-looking, but I love it too much to give a hoot about historical accuracy.
You better believe I'm milking the 'fantasy' in 'medieval fantasy' for all its worth, lol.
Okay, @niamh-sims and @gphoenixsims were absolutely right - that teeny-tiny throne room simply wasn't cutting the mustard.
I really liked Niamh's idea to make a whole separate lot for the throne room, so that's exactly what I did. The thing ended up huge, though, so now I'm stuck figuring out what to do with the remaining rooms. 😅
I predict my number of WIPs will grow ever bigger...
Speaking of unpractically large builds. Another thing I've been poking at in the background is this... clocktower castle thingamajig.
It started out as a residential lot, but I realized it's way too cumbersome to be someone's house so now I'm thinking of turning it into a campus building for Wyvern's Bay (once I unlock a campus, that is).
As per standard practice, I'm stuck on figuring out a working interior layout. This thing is basically all hallways and little else, and I've no idea what rooms to add to it. Might help if I actually knew what the building was meant for...
At least the topdown view is pretty!
