An Odd Synopsis and More...

So there is a description for Jill Culton's verison of Hotel Transylvania with two different release dates listed along with the mention of a "Simon Van Helsing" character that's been consistent with other synopses from around the time. The guides for these movies were posted from 2009-2010, you can also find the release dates for other canned movies, early titles, and concept art for some of these as their movie posters.

Hotel Transylvania's first script and original protagonist

In the earliest version of Hotel Transylvania Dracula was not the main character, Johnny was not the love interest, in fact Mavis's love interest was not even human. His name? AL. A schlubby little goblin who dreams of making it big while working as a bellhop at the hotel that Drac and Mavis are guests at. That's right, guests.

In this version of the story Drac and Mavis didn't live at the hotel nor did they own it, they were simply guests along with the other monsters. Al is the main character, much of the story revolves around him and wanting to move up in the monster world along with a deep admiration for Dracula that sours his relationship with Mavis. Characters like the wolfman and the mummy are present, a lot of Frank's mannerisms and speech are largely the same, but right off the bat the differences are noticeable. For starters Dracula is not the overbearing father he is the final movie, Frank is Mavis's friend not Drac's. Murray also isn't a character he's just referred to as the mummy, he's Al's co-worker and friend.

Mavis is depicted wearing early 20th century fashion and a more typical 1920's style flapper in Marcelo Vignali's early concepts. Hotel Transylvania's development actually dates back to 2004 as seen above but the script itself was not finalized until 2005, the script can actually be viewed online at thescriptsavant.com. It's interesting to note that the Brizzi Brother's website described it as "a computer-animated mockumentary" along with a 2007 release listing Ash Brannon and Chris Buck as the directors because in 2006 two different directors would be attached to the project with an entirely new plot. Anthony Stacchi and David Feiss's version would introduce a human protagonist and in a way laid the ground work for the future of the franchise by having a the love interest be human. Al would later get retooled as a minor character, his role diminished to being a lackey or minion to Dracula and replaced by Simon Renfield(a Van Helsing at one point) which can be seen in the animatic by James Baker below.
