since we’re bitching about Stranger Things can we talk about how fucking weird the whole thing wirh Henry and the kids is? the way he kidnaps these children and puts these weird, very phallic things IN THEIR MOUTHS and grooms them and lies to them. Like its fucking weird and gross. Clearly the “plugged in” thing is a rip of/reference to the Matrix, that much is obvious, but the problem here is the Matrix acknowledges how invasive that is, and Stranger Things hasn’t and probably won’t.
The scene in the first episode of season 5 with Will being shown to have experienced the same thing soured the entire season to me. It reads as an extremely unintentional assault allegory which will Never be talked about and Never addressed. It comes off as something someone suggested because it would add to the horror aspect, and it did, just not for the reasons it was added for. Its horrifying to think about how these extremely violating acts will never be given or treated with the weight they deserve.
