The good new is I finally had time and was able to move the ramp back up to the house today! I had seriously doubted I’ d manage alone.

I know that doesn’t sound impressive, but this ramp is a bit of a monster. It’s over 16ft long with a railing 8in wide at the top, constructed of large thick boards fastened with heavy duty bolts. Pop built really it well for grandma or it wouldn’t have survived over 40years in this climate, about 10 of it overgrown with vines and covered with several inches of leaves out in the yard. It’s big, it’s heavy, and I only had me to move it all the way to the front door of the house.

Thank goodness for a life time working with Pop out in the shop, where we were always having to figure ways to move things you would think way too big and heavy for us without a fork lift. You know, I actually am very good at this sort of thing! LOL

Side note here....this is why I have always gotten angry at idiot claiming that ancient people couldn’t have built the pyramids/Stonehenge/the Easter Island faces/etc without alien help. Bull!! You wouldn’t believe the scale of the things you can move with the simplest of techniques if you know what you are doing. There were times we laughed watching tv shows with scientists trying to recreate how people might have done things ‘cause to us it was so obvious. We were doing that stuff every day! 

Unfortunately there was bad news. Lots of it. There is a lot of rot where it touched the ground. Some of the horizonal beams have cracked so a few of the bolts are loose. We moved the ramp to work on the sewer line, and when I finally finished it after Pop died (life had made it a slow job for Pop, and then death happened) I didn’t fill the excavation to the same level it had been. This some means ramp legs aren’t touching the ground....

Oh, and I broke the door to the house! When I was prying the ramp over to get it caught the door underneath. It wasn’t much, and it shouldn’t have ruined things, BUT it turned out that metal pins in the three hinges had rusted nearly through without is knowing . Two suddenly snapped, and the third hinge at the bottom had the full weight. Instead of snapping it tore the metal of the hinge! Since the hinges, door frame, and door are a unit, and probably a 50year old unit at that, I’m going to have to figure out how to fix this without just buying a simple replacement part....

***sigh***

I can’t just leave it proped in place. need to be getting the ramp safe  for Mom to use, but now I’ve gotta spend a day trying to fix the darn door!
