BUTCHER’S GUIDE TO DARKSTRIPE
Scourge Approved!
What an incredible thing to start off the new year with.
okay so i made a sketch of a potential cover for RSR
it’s not very refined but hey it’s a sketch
hope i got the idea across :P
You have no idea how fitting this cover is.
Even if kittypet don’t know their human-given names, I imagine they know the sound of their name-which would of course not have a meaning in Feline so it’s just be nonsense but I feel like they’d be able to pick up on the fact that the names mean “precious thing”, “loved thing”, etc.. or just approximate the sounds into Feline an probably ending up with something like Joe translating into something like ‘cautious’ or something also this got me thinking about another thing-do all cats name their after appearance? Do certain groups name cats after qualities like ‘Brave’ or ‘Quiet’? Will we ever receive a group that does this naming system?
I was going to give a plant fact, but the truth is that I don't know if we'll ever get to groups outside of the main ones like the Clans and Tribe(s). We might in SEs someday, but I cannot promise anything, simply because the future is uncertain.
What I can say, in terms of worldbuilding, is that almost every housecat understands the sound humans call them by as their human name, but they refer to themselves with a feline name by default. Just kind of a cat thing; no language could EVER compare to their own, after all.
At birth, most cats are given a name for their appearance, referencing something the queen already knows about that the kitten looks like. There are some cultures out there that go for different themes, or don't name the kittens at all until they reach a certain age, but the most common thing is referencing the kit's color, pattern or size.
That's not to say the kit will carry that name forever. Kittypets most often call themselves what their mother did even after growing up, but loners and other colonies regularly change their names for various purposes: to sound tougher, to mark themselves as a grownup, to honor a nickname a loved one gave them, etc. The list goes on. Not many cultures are as into the whole "naming" thing as the Clans are, but they're not the only ones to have ceremonies where a new name is bestowed to mark coming-of-age or an important event that must be honored.
It's a very varied thing. Sometimes a name really matters to an exaggerated point, sometimes you just chuck the whole thing out and go by whatever a stranger calls you. There's no real consistency.
i made a thing in light of this chapter
Absolutely perfect.
behold!
redux fire grey and raven meeting MY rewrite’s fire grey and raven
funnily enough, my firestar is also aroace (the result of me projecting onto one of my favs yet again)
i have a feeling both greystripe’s would say “chillax” and “brotato” unironically
and big raven is just chilling with little raven
honestly the raven’s aren’t that different in terms of design because i based my ravenwing off of my ravenpaw design with slight differences
hope I delivered on my promise! :D
(the only reason i finished so quickly was because i sketched it out beforehand and thank GOD i did bc the fire’s poses were hard for me to nail down both times I drew them)
These are fucking incredible and they make me so happy.
little sketch of ravenwing and wrenwhisker might finish it later
These designs are so lovely.
low effort darkstripe doodle
sad pathetic man that creates his own misery because he can’t allow himself to be happy and loved by those around him
You made him so perfectly pathetic.
