BETTER HORSES & STORYTELLING: THE SIMS 4 MOD - by simsbydionysus
Hi! Welcome to a new mod to help you enhance your gameplay and storytelling in The Sims 4. This time I've created a mod out of pure love and necessity. I love horses, I'm an equestrian and ever since the Horse Ranch expansion pack came out I've felt the need to improve its mechanics and opportunities.
This mod aims to do that. I've added 2 new careers, a lot trait, a new social event and new interactions for sims with the Horse Lover trait. The plan is to add more careers and interactions in the future so that you get more GP and ST options.
How does the mod work?
Firstly, there are two new careers: the Riding Instructor Career and the Stable Hand Part Time Job. They are both rabbithole careers, with some additional options to make it more immersive (as I like to do with my careers).
The Riding Instructor Career
This is a full-time job with a training process and 4 different specializations.
For the 5 levels you have to improve the Riding and Fitness Skills, but for the first level you also have to take a Trainer Certification Test. To do this you must have completed the other two goals, then click on your sim and under the new Trainer Certification Test Menu choose to start your preparation.
This will unlock new social interactions (so your sim can get help from another sim), so when you feel your sim is ready (that is up to you) you can click on the "Ask if they are ready to take the test", and that will unlock the option to take the test on the phone (under Business Category).
For now there's no animation or rabbithole since I've had some problems with those options, but I plan to add a rabbithole exam for more immersion! So for now, after you click on the phone interaction, your sim will get a buff saying if they passed or failed (it's a 50/50 chance, but with all the sims I've tried it, they have passed, so it shouldn't be too hard). If they fail, they can just take the test again (sometimes you may need to click on the social interaction mentioned previously again, to activate the phone interaction).
When they pass, they'll get a special trait indicating that they are a Certified Trainer and will level up.
The next levels only have the two skills to improve, so it doesn't get too tedious. When they reach level 5 they will have to choose a specialized discipline or stay as a general Riding Instructor. For this, click on your sim and under the Riding Instructor Menu click one of the options:
Then they'll get the option to choose a branch:
At this point there aren't any more levels, I might add a competition specialization, riding level test instructor (which is a fictional test based on a real one from my country), etc. But the pay is quite good!
The Stable Hand Career
This is a part-time job available for teens-adults. There's only one level and a custom interaction, because it's intended as a simple way to get some extra money and for storytelling. If someone has any ideas, I can add more levels!
Horse Lover Trait Interactions
This trait doesn't do much in game, so I wanted to add some interactions for sims to enhance that side of the sim and for storytelling purposes. Each interaction gives different buffs based on the trait of the target sim. Some other parts of the mod include custom buffs for sims with this trait too!
Equestrian Center Lot Trait
This is a small part of the mod, which simply adds a lot trait so that any lot with this trait will make sims gain the riding skill faster (it pairs well with the Boarding Stable Lot Trait by flauschtrud). The best way to use it is to make it a residential lot and add a few horses so that when your sim arrives they can ride one of the horses there (if they don't already have one), you could also make it a community lot (if you own a horse) or a small business with the latest expansion pack (this is probably my favourite option), I do recommend to use the expanded activities mod for small businesses with this option.
Trail Ride Event
This is an experimental custom event, it works well so you won't have any problems, but I will expand it more once my skills are greater.
For now, you can choose one guide and a few guest riders. My recommendation is to travel to a park or residential lot that has the previously mentioned Boarding Stable Lot Trait, or maybe the Wild Horses one, or with your own horses if you have them. Then have all sims mount their horse (works best with sims on your household or the Control Any Sim Mod) and choose to have a ride. I tried to do it with two sims together at the same time, but they went in opposite directions, so yeah... For now it's ok for storytelling, but I really want to improve this module!!
I still added it because someone might make good use of it as it is, so you have the option to use it or not.
Are there any requirements?
Yes, you need the Horse Ranch Expansion Pack. The mods mentioned are NOT required, but they will help enhance the mod!
How to install?
Download both files (.ts4script and .package) and add them to your mods folder (only one subfolder deep or it might not work properly).

Future plans
I'd love to add more horse-related careers, interactions for the Horse Lover trait and improve the Trail Ride event. Feel free to share any ideas or suggestions!
Updates
The current version of the mod is compatible with the March 20th patch: PC: 1.113.297.1020 / Mac: 1.113.297.1220
Poses for a horse and a child. The child is Redheadsims preset short, though some of the poses work with a regular child too. Place 2 teleporters anywhere, except the jumping pose should be placed in the middle of an obstacle/log fence.
