The 1st Magi themed Debate Competition 2017 - Rules

As we already announced once Sinbad Squad decided to host the  1st Magi themed Debate Competition on Tumblr. But this time it will be more detailed about the rules/requirements. So let’s get into it!

R U L E S:

Let’s start with the basics: Debate is a regulated discussion of a proposition by arguments between two matched sides

In this spirit each round there will be a proposition and the given role of affirmative or negative which you have to keep yourself to

You don’t have to agree with the proposition to be able to reason next to or even against it.

This Competition is supposed to popularize the complexity of Magi’s worldview and encourage deeper discussion just as stepping out of your comfort zones when thinking about characters/scenarios

Propositions will be taken from both the Sinbad no Bouken and Magi manga but you don’t have to know those to be able to fully participate

The jury is basing their decision entirely on the material presented, without regard for other material which they may happen to know

No expression shall be accepted which is offensive, personal or defamatory in nature. Anyone breaking this rule is immediately eliminated.

The number of the rounds depends on the valid applications we get (in case of not getting enough the event will be canceled) but there will be one week each round for everyone to collect their reasoning

Each round there will be winners who can continue competing for the final victory and the prize what is a free commission of your choice offered by @jadeandblood

Still, there will be a chance for the rest to continue the game for their own fun!

The 1st Magi themed Debate Competition 2017 - Application

You have to submit your application till 25th October to the Sinbad Squad site! In case of not getting enough valid proposal the game will be canceled. Each person can submit one application.

To enter the game you have to write as affirmative for a proposition inspired by the following quote:

"You're always looking further and further ahead at the world as a whole. Doesn't that make you unsuited to create a country? You are strong and without even trying, you attract people to you. You have the wit and resourcefulness to be an overwhelmingly successful leader. However, because of those things you're not suited to be a king!!"

And the proposition is:

"One with the natural charms and ambition to lead people isn't suited to be king for the sake of the country"

Some more tips on how to write as the affirmative (not an obligatory thing):

Introduction -  State the resolution and your position

Need -  Show that your proposal is needed (stock issue) by describing the problem that exists and which your proposal will solve. To prove the need, give examples, illustrations, opinions of authorities, facts, and analogies which all point to the need for your proposal. When giving evidence, include a signal phrase citation for the source, much like you would in a research paper. Give enough of these proofs to establish your point.

Practical - Show that your proposal is practical (stock issue). In other words, show that it will do what you say it will do.

Desirable -  Show that your proposal is desirable. This means to show that the way in which it will work will be beneficial. Present specific benefits that will occur as a result of the proposal

Conclusion -  Wrap up your case by summarizing your main claims and restating your position on the resolution.
