I’m curious if you’d be willing to say why it’s not for most people ?
The most prominent and easiest answer is that
Being an artist who makes their living off of commissions means that you must rely on your ability not to burn out
And with how low most artist need to charge you must produce a continuous amount of art without burning out (impossible challenge) or hurting yourself
You also must rely on never having an emergency that stops you from drawing for more than a few weeks (typically, depending on your prices)
There's a LOT more that effects why I don't recommend living off commissions but I'd go forever
