SingleCut DDH Softly Spoken Magic Spells

SingleCut Double Dry Hopped Softly Spoken Magic Spells follows the way of Trillium/Other Half/WeldWerks/etc with releasing a separate DDH version of a beer, with this in particular “DDH'd with a totally different hop bill then the first time around.” This growler was filled at Troy Beverage Center, which is a bit closer to home plus they recently got a crowler machine. Juicy tangerine, grapefruit, mango, and passionfruit as well as a solid amount of pine - would love to try this and the normal version side-by-side sometime!

Queens Brewery Visits

I went down to Queens this past weekend to see my friend’s band Scarboro open for one of my forever favorite hardcore bands: Agnostic Front! I can’t remember how many times I’ve seen AF, but the last time was 14 years ago when I saw them play their 20th anniversary show at CBGB. I knew I wanted to at least try to hit SingleCut Beersmiths, Finback Brewery, and LIC Beer Project; since Finback was the closest one to my friend’s apartment, I went there before the show on Saturday. All of their beers were top notch, but I kept coming back to Meridian, an IPA dry-hopped exclusively with - you guessed it - Meridian hops. Juicy orange, melon, pineapple, and lemon all day. Definitely going to have to brew with this hop!

After several stops for incredibly delicious Chinese food for lunch in Flushing on Sunday, I went to LIC Beer Project and immediately noticed some similarities between it and Finback - notably being more open/relaxed spaces in areas where parking is easy - similiarities that carried over to my next visit to SingleCut Beersmiths (pictured above). As I had a near three hour drive ahead of me, both visits were quite short with one pour at each, but between all three stops I came back with almost two cases of beer!

SingleCut Softly Spoken Magic Spells

SingleCut Beersmiths are making some damn good IPAs and all you have to do is go to the beer store to get them - no waiting in line, traveling, asking beer store employees to stash some for you, trading, etc etc. In fact, I’d say they make better IPAs than many of the harder to acquire ones. I don’t know why the hype isn’t there - probably because it isn’t in a 16oz can - and although the hype certainly could/should be there, I’m glad it isn’t. Their Softly Spoken Magic Spells is bursting with juicy hop flavors of peach, grapefruit, and mango as well as more subtle flavors of orange, apricot, and pine - this is a damn delicious beer! P.S. This post was edited two days later, in which time I had already returned for more twice.
