By all accounts, it’s an absolutely placid springtime evening on the shores of Lake Verity. The long grass of the area barely sways in the lilting breeze, the sparkling waters reflect the purplish twilight sunset, and the air is filled with the gentle songs of sleepy Starly and practicing Kricketot. Yes, all is so very peaceful...

...Until it isn’t.

“H E L L O LAKE VERITY! So good to be back--you miss me?!” Barry hollers gleefully, exploding onto the scene with his slightly-embarrassed Infernape trailing behind him. Red-faced and panting, the blond sprints down to the shore--arms outstretched like a goofy Wingull--before dramatically flopping down on the soft grasses with a happy sigh. 

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had some mandatory relaxation, eh?” Barry asks Infernape, who plops down beside his trainer with a tired nod. “Even longer since we’ve been back here...but when Teach wants a favor, you gotta accept right away!”

“Teach”--or Professor Rowan--admittedly sounded a bit hesitant when he called Barry just a day earlier, asking the blond to serve as a last-second substitute teacher at the Jubilife Trainer’s School: I can’t get a hold of Dawn or Lucas, so just tell the children about your journey, and try not to completely destroy the school, okay? It’s just one day. After assuring his gruff mentor that he was “a true Champion-caliber Emergency Teach,” Barry interrupted his stuffed Fight Area training schedule and headed straight for home. Now back at Lake Verity with school the next day, Barry has a rare opportunity to truly decompress and chill out...

...and, less than five minutes in, it’s getting kind of boring. 

As if struck by a sudden bolt of inspiration, Barry sits bolt upright before rummaging in his pockets and pulling out a dusty harmonica--his new impulsive Hobby of the Month. “Remember, if you wanna be super cool, you gotta learn to play harmonica on the lake,” he reminds Infernape before raising the instrument to his lips. Unfortunately, Infernape can’t take note of this insightful advice because his hands are already clapped tightly over his ears.

Barry’s first few notes are so loud, shrill, and off-key that a huge flock of nesting Starly departs for the far end of the lake. The Kricketot stop playing in disbelief, and even Verity itself ripples with the movements of Water Pokemon who are probably wondering what the hell is going on. Barry is “playing” so enthusiastically that he doesn’t hear a newcomer emerging from the lake’s natural entrance...

Barry’s favorie color is orange. Subsequently his favorite pokemon is chimchar because of the color.

Serena has a huge sweet tooth especially for chocolate and pastries. So much so, that she learned how to bake a lot by herself.

You never sent Grunts to Sunyshore City, right? Even though you went after much smaller towns with arguably less value? So how do you feel about Sunyshore?

“There have been members of Galactic in Sunnyshore before. Mostly technicians that help upkeep the solar walkway project. Galactic’s first venture was to build those paths.. Funnily enough there wasn’t even a building for us back then… We almost set up shop in Sunnyshore but land was cheaper out in Veilstone and Eternia so that’s where we ended up instead.“ Steepled fingers rest in front of his lips and he stares unblinkingly at this nuisance… Don’t you have better things to do rather than get old information? 

“We typically have a small group of locals that work under Galactic up there… A research team that’s been there for seven years now. No need for different uniforms to show up out of the blue. Old members do just fine and are just as loyal when they don’t have the whole picture.” Pale eyes flick down to look at the desk.

“Sunnyshore’s power lied in the amount of electricity it produced. Did you really think there was a blackout back then? No. We simply rerouted the power back to Veilstone to help generate enough electricity to complete the red chain project without inflating numbers and causing even more suspicion.” He shifts in his seat. “It’s a modern city, so I used it for modern reasons. There isn’t any pieces of myth left in that place. Why would I need to go there? There aren’t any puzzles left for me to solve.” He tilts his head to the side far enough for the vertebrae to crack, his shoulders finally relaxing a fraction. Still clasped hands rotate outwards and he straightens his arms to stretch.

“What isn’t there to like about Sunnyshore? It’s a perfectly boring town that allowed for me to grow up in it. A thankless city that never cared that I allowed for it to thrive.” A weedy patch that he cleared and planted flowers in. It’s only fair that after some time he picked a few blooms to brighten his life. “There are better places to be in Sinnoh than in a town who thinks they can just walk all over the sun.”
