There's nothing like ginger and hot pepper to trigger sinus drainage. Prepare a quick tea by infusing 2 tbsp of fresh, grated ginger and a few chopped mint leaves in a cup of boiling water. Add 2 tbsp of honey. You can also add 3 tbsp of grated, ground ginger to a cup of hot carrot soup, or 3 tbsp of ground black pepper to a cup of tomato or chicken soup. Spicy Indian and Thai food are perfect for a blocked nasal passage. Avoid dairy, cold foods and alcohol.
Take an over-the-counter antihistamine or nasal decongestant to dry up your sinuses, especially if the problem is caused by allergies. Reducing inflammation of the nasal passageways can improve sinus drainage. Choose a decongestant with the ingredient pseudoephedrine. An expectorant also works to thin mucus so that it drains more quickly.
Perform a sinus wash using a neti pot. A neti pot, which can be purchased at a local pharmacy for less than $20, cleanses and purifies the entire sinus cavity naturally. Mix 1 cup warm water with ½ tsp. sea salt and mix until the salt is completely dissolved. Pour the solution into the neti pot. Tilt your head so your chin is parallel with your shoulders. Place the opening of the neti pot on your right nostril and pour the solution slowly into your nose. Allow the solution to completely flow throughout your sinuses, coming out the other nostril. Gently blow your nose and repeat the process on the other side. Perform a sinus wash as often as needed. (Este ya lo hago :D y brega)
