Takes place between ‘Falling in Love All Over Again’ and ‘ Stillbirth ’
Sin finds herself distracted as she works in her office. Yet another nightmare, a dream where she’s so close to touching Wei, to pulling her into an embrace as she fades away. She wasn’t there when Wei died, which makes the memory all the more painful. She never got to see her beloved wife take her last breath. She gave everything to protect their dear friend. To protect someone worth protecting. To protect Vin. Maybe that’s why she got so attached to Vin. Vin flirted with her, well, with Grim, Sin’s alter ego of sorts. Sin has always put on a facade in public, pretending to be a gentleman named Grim to feel ‘normal’ in the city. If Lord Death wandered the streets, she’d have all eyes on her, but as Grim, she could be normal. With her shapeshifting, it’s possible to keep her secrets this way. As the days passed, she found herself turning into that man, turning into Grim. Grim was well respected for his mysterious background, quiet demeanor, and nice clothes. But in some ways, people were unnerved by him. He wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, he comes off as rude or blunt in his speech. Sin realized then that people wouldn’t like Lord Death very much if they knew she was Grim. Grim doesn’t let people feel safe, something has changed. So she stopped being Grim, stopped going out altogether. Now, her thoughts consume her, and Grim haunts her very being.
Back at that bar, over 20 years ago, Grim let loose for one of the few times he was able. He could just be alone here, people left him be. Everyone found him attractive, but nobody would stick around for conversation, so Grim got the peaceful, lonesome nights he thought he wanted. Until..
“Hey there, you’re really pretty.. Wanna come with me? I’m looking for something to take my mind off of a long day.. If you’ll help me out?”
“... Heart?”
“..! ..You? You’re…”
Grim clears his throat, avoiding eye contact.
“Heart.. I-”
“Vin.”
“..What?”
“It’s Vin.”
“... Is that your alter ego? I thought I might be the only one..”
“No, it’s my name, dude. What are you doing out here? I would’ve never thought I’d run into you.”
Grim eyes Vin up and down, admiring their figure. He’s never seen Vin in a dress before. The dress was form fitting, showing off Vin’s delicate hips and small chest. They were so small, but very pretty. Grim found himself staring, admiring Vin’s perfect figure and beautifully silky hair. Their wings looked so feathery soft.. He wants to know what they feel like, but he knows he shouldn’t touch. Vin had a little bit of makeup, some eyeliner that perfectly suited their eyes, and blush that made their lovely pale skin look incredible. Vin cocked their head at Grim’s staring.
“Well.. I came here to find someone to rail me. I’m not gonna deny that now. I’m still up for it, if you are. Just don’t get any weird ideas. I think you might have something weird in mind with the way you’re looking at me right now.”
“Oh, sorry.. I just haven’t had a good look at you since.. Back then.”
“.. Do you still blame me? …Do you blame me for killing your wife?”
“...You didn’t kill her. I know it wasn’t your fault, and I’m sorry if I ever made you feel like you were at fault.”
“I’ve always blamed myself for it, so you sort of made that worse, I guess.”
“...Your eyes.. You have heterochromia like I do.”
“..So are we getting out of here or what?”
After that night together, Sin wanted to keep Vin close. This is the friend that Wei loved enough to die for. This is the person that Sin slowly fell in love with.. Or.. Maybe it’s not that kind of love. She doesn’t know anymore. Now as Sin sits in her office with Vin at her side, silently doing paperwork without glancing at Sin or talking to her at all, Sin finds herself admiring Vin just like she had back then. Beautiful silky white hair, done up in a beautiful braid over her shoulder. Soft, feathery wings that she used to help him wash. A small figure.. Though he’s not as petite as he used to be.. Is he?
Oh.
Sin wants to reach out, to feel Vin’s stomach. See if the baby kicks. She should have noticed a long time ago. When was the last time she really looked at Vin? When was the last time she made eye contact with those beautiful heterochromic eyes? Vin hides his belly well, Sin has to admit. The hoodie he’s got on must be Luis’ as it's so large and baggy on him. But Sin can tell now that she’s observing her wife that Vin is pregnant with Luis’ baby.
.. Why is Vin hiding a pregnancy..? Unless..
Is Vin.. Afraid that this baby will die? Just as so many loved ones have in that past?
