And BOOM, first pass at some Quest for the Queen designs! ^^ This ain’t the whole cast, unlike my OG Bordergrams designs—QftQ has a much bigger cast that I’m probably gonna need a couple posts to get through, three of whom are spoilery to the degree just seeing what they look like constitutes a spoiler. But! Until then, here’s the “main trio” so to speak: Render, Leigh, and Pan!
Artist commentary under the cut—much like when I drew the Bordergrams cast, ‘s all spoiler-free ^^
Sir Render: I did a beta design of him for my QftQ hype art, and y’all will definitely spot the differences: darker skin, eyebags, curls, and, of course, red hair ^^ The reason I had Render as a blonde originally was so that his design wouldn’t overlap too much with B’s (whom I also made a redhead), especially since they both have braids, but then it turned out it made sense Render would have red hair because [SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER]. The darker shade is meant to distinguish them further, and also [CLASSIFIED—ALL WILL BE REVEALED AT A LATER DATE 😉].
You might also notice that even though he’s decked out in gray and green, his background and text are purplish-pink. Deliberate! See, for B, I’d drawn from the book cover to give him his signature color, but by the time QftQ was announced I already had two characters with heavy purple theming (Irratino and Ty) and felt like Render being purple too would have too much overlap. So instead, I drew on the green in the design, hence why Render has green eyes.
But then I read the book. And then I realized Render could still have purple. For reasons.
:)
But I didn’t feel like changing his whole color scheme yet, so! Render starts out green, then picks up a purple outfit as part of his character development. Add that to the list of things to draw in the future ^^; Until then, the one bit of purple on him is his sword. (Which I’m fairly sure I drew entirely too short. Weapons may be the bane of me. Unfortunate, for a Murdle artist XD)
Anyway uh I’ve spent a fair bit on him MOVING ON—
Queen Leigh: Since Render will lose green as a signature color, Leigh gets it as a permanent one! She was designed in Gacha Life (as was the original version of Render) and is one of the few characters who pretty much follows that design exactly—right down to the embroidery on her dress ^^ Haven’t actually got much to say here, at least not as much as I do for Render, but much like him, her design does get a bit of a makeover later in the book! I’ll explain if we get there XD
Friar Pan: AKA the designated “guys I swear I didn’t gender flip this character”…character :P His hair was originally shorter, if still long, but I made it longer to fit Render and Leigh’s better. You know it’s fantasy because everyone has impractically long hair :P Naturally, he and Leigh look similar, them being siblings and all, but he’s got a lighter hair color and a subtly different shade of blue for his eyes. You may, uh, also notice something a bit. Familiar. About his color scheme. And the butterfly decorations in his hair. All I’ll say without going into spoiler territory is: that was deliberate. :)
But yeah—that’s QftQ’s main characters! Others will be drawn in “batches” so to speak (major supporting characters, the other knights, Render and Leigh’s late-game designs, and the three spoiler characters) sooooo look forward to those in the future ^^
How would you feel if I made a little series/AU where the puzzle blorbos(Logico, Irratino, B, Ripley, Ty, Render, Leigh and Pan) are in a house together and they like interact with each other and be silly, angsty and all in between. Wouldn’t that be cool?
