hey uh, i'm new to the RoL fandom (currently reading foxglove summer) and stumbled across your account today which also marks the day I FINALLY found what people tag their peter/nightngale fics. hashtag blessed. so yes, hi. but also, do you have the time and possible inclination to suggest any fics i could read without spoiling myself? please? (cause I already got spoiled for broken homes WHILE reading it ahahahaa *cries*) I just need my starlingale fix. o_o;

Oh man, pre-Foxglove Summer Starlingale recs - that’s the ANCIENT PAST for me, I didn’t even find the fandom until after it was out. A couple of things that come to mind off the top of my head, but other people should definitely chime in: 

The Purple Jug and Longhouse by @philomytha (both short-ish and casefic-adjacent, E)

How You Keep Breathing by @linpatootie (medium-length casefic, great case)

Rain On A Sunny Day by esteliel (raincloud spell related PWP)

And, uh, not to toot my own horn but I was writing a Starlingale fic or two during that time period: you can find it all here. Look for stuff published in 2014/2015 - anything with specific Foxglove Summer spoilers should be tagged.

Besides the recorded laugh tracks that are flat out used to tell you when to laugh, as far as I know (feel free to correct me) even in recordings with live audience it is possibly to ask the people there for specific reactions that they edit into the show later. in the end of the whose live tapings they definitely asked the audience to do gasps and stuff like that. but that may have a lot to do with the way whose line is shot.

99% Invisible recently did a podcast about the history of the laugh track (called "The Laff Box") that tries to answer that question.

And what also bugs me in laugh track sitcoms is when the audience goes “oooooooh!!” When 2 characters kiss, I hate that! It’s so annoying!

I think the laugh track is a cheap way for the show to say “insert laugh here” even if you didn’t think it was funny. It’s why I can’t stand those kinds of sitcoms anymore.

Thanks guys! Sorry, I should have said that they are live audiences that I’m talking about, but like Sirius said - perhaps they react as requested? It’s still weird as hell.

TapingWhose Line had definitely become one of the more strenuous activities in hiscalendar. So it was that, in-between rehearsals and taping, he could usually befound taking a nap in his dressing room. More often than not, he’d wake up tofind the warm weight of Colin asleep against him and he’d drift back off with asmall smile on his lips. And although every other member of the cast hadwitnessed it at some point, not one of them could bring themselves to mock themfor it.
