jedi: teach students to process, manage, and be mindful their emotions. encourage restraint. hyperaware of the dangers posed by access to such an immense power and set guidelines to keep it in check. have mental health care and rehabilitation for jedi who need it. aim to protect and aid others in the galaxy. mess up sometimes, even in pretty big ways, but usually are well-intentioned in the attempt.

sith: teach students to kill or be killed. encourage the focus of negative emotions like hate and anger, letting them fester to achieve power. hide their weaknesses so other sith won’t seize the opportunity like sharks to blood in the water to take them out. utilize their power for status and personal gain and set a social darwinist standard to their structure and hierarchy. commit mass atrocities to decimate and subjugate entire worlds.

okay but on what level are the sith not essentially a pyramid scheme

if nothing else the sith are fucking obsessed with actual literal pyramids so like

a worldbuilding idea I like: because Korriban is primarily a cold desert planet, one of the main innovations brought to the sith species by the Dark Jedi, and the key to how they established political control, was wide-scale ecologically-viable agriculture, via their Force alchemy techniques.

(the pre-contact sith also had a robust tradition of magical/Force-based bioengineering, but for various reasons including leaning to the carnivore/insectivore side diet-wise, and placing a heavier emphasis on sentience/behaviour than simply “life” alone, they used it much more with regards to animals and as a medicinal tool, than with plant/crop cultivation.)

like honestly it’s bad enough that bioware are going full ‘the jedi can do have and will remove someone’s mind’ but like

there is. already precedent for force users fucking up someone’s head. on a ‘wipe memories, insert new backstory’ level.

he shows up in the jedi consular act 3 as an antagonist... and is a sith who has had his mind scooped out and replaced with new instructions on v’s say-so, and has the potential to have his mind restored held over him by his sith handlers as a carrot to get him to do his job (namely in this instance, kidnapping and interogating/ultimately killing nadia’s father)

but like

not only does nobody ever remember this guy exists (not least because like, there are exactly three people on this hellsite who have played the jc story and i am mutuals with all of them), but bioware are now going down the route of the jedi having actively, openly, gleefully done this despite how ridiculously OOC it would be for them

and in the name of what exactly? ~grey morality~? shitting on the jedi for no real reason? [chuck boyd voice] why not both? [/chuck boyd voice]

there’s a lot that someone with a functioning attention span could dig into in torcomm’s 6.2.1 dump, but as a sith trash blog i have predictable interests and i will thus note it is interesting that in the cancelled exp01 (ie, the content that was being made prior to the game’s originally planned content being shelved and it going f2p), the republic actually occupied ziost. which, granted, would probably have been saresh’s intended (or at least best case) scenario in rote, but it says something that bioware chose not to go that route when recycling the content

but also that ziost is referred to explicitly as a holy world, and not just as a bureacratic/metropolitan centre. outside of the flavour text on the galaxy map (and that instanced daily i guess), ziost is pushed and portrayed as an Imperial world rather than a Sith one - ordered and paved over, with the citizens being largely imperials and bureaucrats. but like. this is definitely getting into Personal Niche Interest zone

honestly though what will never stop being funny to be about the ‘sith ideology is empowering! the jedi are puritans actually this is why i hate them’ crowd is that like

there is almost nothing more puritan in this godforsaken hole than ‘my suffering makes me stronger’. but this is what we’re supposed to find appealing and empowering and cool. but only the jedi are puritans and because the yare puritans they are bad.

in canon, yeah, they weren’t, both in the pre- and post-disney era. however, as an old republic blog, this is concerned with the old republic and thus the EU, for better or for worse.
