This sketch is one of ones (so far) that have changed the most from idea to ink-ready. I changed up the pose, the position from bank of the lake to in the lake, cave/rock faces vs distant hills, etc.

One of my favorite pieces from my thesis book about birds and avian creatures from mythology, folklore, and superstition. This one focuses on “The Six Swans” from the Brothers Grimm. 🦢

Six Swans

I think this one is one of my favorites. I started out the center with seven points, because when I first heard this tale it was an off-brand movie called the Seven Swan Brothers, so the center is seven. The flowers also have seven petals. Six swans for the six swan brothers, of course, night for when they were able to transform, and thread for how their father hid them in the wood, and how the witch step-mother found them. A woven pattern for her making the shirts for them.

Shiori is the only princess in the kingdom and is not looking forward to her marriage, Shiori also had magic which is cool but it’s also illegal and when she catches her step mother using magic, her step mother curses her, will Shiori be able to break the curse and save not only herself, but her brothers and the kingdom before it’s too late
