It’s challenge time! This is the season for starting to get lazy, so I’m going in the opposite direction. I’m gonna train heavy with more volume and intensity for the next six weeks after a year of lifting fairly light. My form will still be perfect, but rep ranges will be a little lower, sometimes as low as 6, though at times I’ll only get 2-4 and rest pause to 6 reps before doing a couple of drop sets. Every set after the warm up will be to failure. Jiu Jitsu and rock climbing will round out my training. I’ll also clean up my diet and increase my protein while still paying attention to flexibility, structural work and bringing up weak points. When you don’t have a tournament/competition, it’s important to challenge yourself and have the discipline to follow through. Those of us with more experience can use ourselves as guinea pigs so we can give our clients the best information possible. Day Twelve
100 split squats, 7 mins arms and four run-throughs of abs focus. No visible changes this week. At the end of these six weeks it will be like I haven’t actually done anything.
Day Eight
I have started on Blogilates’ abs focus and yes, I can’t do most of the exercises. I have never liked core exercises. I avoid them as much as possible and this is probably why I have weak lower core. Not all my core muscles are weak because I can do crunches, although those aren’t good for my back so I have to avoid them too. Not really sure how effective this week will be. I’ll try my best. Don’t think I have strengthened those muscles in any way.
The arm workout is simple enough. Body weight is a good way to strengthen arms, although lifting weights would result in building muscles faster. I’ll be moving soon but once I find a gym I’d like to try learning how to use the weights machines. I’ll have to do my research to ensure I do exercises that burn fat but don’t bulk me up.
Also, it’s day 3 of the 100 squats for 30 days challenge! Today it is 100 plié squats. Still nice and easy.
