A report from the Chairperson of Shankar Jaikishan Fans’ Association International, Hyderabad for SJ fans
Dear SJ buddies,
The following report is for the benefit of new members of this group.
Congratulations to all members! Our organization is four years old!! Since it’s inception in 2014, we have made a steady progress. I am pleased to inform that several members have been added this year. A significant number of Life and Patron members also joined our membership. A warm welcome to all and thank you for your support.
On January 19, we held a music program at the National College Auditorium, Mumbai, in association with Malhar Sangeet Kala Kendra. Kavita Sahni, a well known music instructor and daughter of our member, Parminder Chada, organized the special event. This entire program had music students, ranging in ages from seven to seventy, singing songs composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Despite it being a Friday, the venue was packed with the enthusiastic audience who were completely enthralled by the amateur singers that did a great job. The music accompaniment was good. Kavita’s organizational skills were evident in every detail of the show. Special guests, Kbharat (worked in SJ orchestra), Rajesh Duggal (Mr. Rajender Krishen’s Son), Javed Badayuni (Mr. Shakeel Badayuni’s son), journalist Nalin Shah and Shikha Vohra (Mr. Anil Biswas’ daughter) were on hand to lend their support.
February saw two shows held in Hyderabad. The first was in honor of the Indian Armed Forces at the RSI Club. Dr. Gurava Reddy, friend and well known Orthopedic Surgeon in town, was the Master of Ceremonies. The singers were Dr. Bunty (Satyanarayana Gadicherla), a popular physician who is also a singer and music composer, Dr. Suneet Sekhri, a medical doctor and singer, SJFAI member Pradeep Sharma, Ramana Ceelam, Zeba Mallick, Malavika Anand and Amrutavarshini. Aravind Sowoji and his team, from the popular TV talent program Paduta Teeyaga, provided an amazing music accompaniment. The show was a huge hit with the officers. I have received countless number of messages and phone calls in appreciation of the gesture.
The following day began with a General Body Meeting of SJFAI. Many important issues were discussed. In the evening, the fourth SJ tribute was held at the iconic Ravindra Bharathi. My dear friends and SJFAI members, Manoj Shailendra and Sanjay Vitthal Bhai Patel, were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor, respectively. Their presence helped make the show extra special. The same singers and musicians performed at the program. We had a trainee from Vishwa Drukh Foundation come and perform a popular number. This time, SJFAI member, Mayank Shukla, was the MC. His well informed and knowledgeable compering was commendable. Kudos to my friends Taiyeb Shaikh, Mithun Krishnan, Sundeep Pahwa, Sanil Madolathil, Vinayakrao Hegde, Mad Dave, Hemantkumar Pawar and wife, Dilipsingh Thakur and Hulasiram Patel, who came all the way to my hometown to show their support. Dear friend and our official photographer, Ketanmajmudar Dooto, was on hand with his candid camera to capture the events.
The Indian Islamic Cultural Center was the venue for the Shankar Jaikishan Ke Sangeet Ka Jashn by Malhar Sangeet Kala Kendra in association with SJFAI on March 3. The jam packed auditorium had several people standing against the wall to show the growing popularity of these programs in the nation’s capital. The very well organized program was by non other than our members, Parminder Chada and Pradeep Sharma. The song selection was very good and so was the orchestra, Do Re Me, under the able conductor Satish Popli.
On March, SJFAI held a one of a kind program with all singers being visually impaired and one being autistic. My friend, Parminder Chadha was gracious enough to host the show at the mini auditorium in her home. I must say that all performers were God’s chosen ones who enthralled all with their excellent rendition of popular SJ songs. Again, Pradeep Sharma showed his expertise in organizing the program. Certificates of appreciation and cash gifts were presented to all singers and the orchestra. A BIG thank you to Parminder and Pradeep for this special program.
We teamed up with the Lions Club, Hyderabad, to arrange a Vision Screening Camp for the under privileged on March 10 at Autonagar, Hyderabad. Several patients with vision problems have been screened for no charge. Those in need of prescription glasses were provided at a nominal cost while those in need of surgeries were referred and transported to the main facility, Sadhuram Eye Hospital in Domalguda.
This year, charitable contributions were made to Vishwa Drukh Foundation that trains blind singers and musicians, Sphoorti Foundation that empowers orphan & destitute children by providing food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare. A donation was also given to The Lions Club Sadhuram Hospital for the Vision Screening Camp.
My sincere thanks to all who believed in and supported Mission SJ with your encouragement. I would also like to thank the SJFAI Executive Committee and the Advisers who were behind me every step of the way.
Respectfully submitted,
Lakshmi K Tummala
President
